I've never played any Fire Emblem, but if you've already got The Sacred Stones for free, then just go and play it. You are losing nothing.

Yeah, it doesn't really matter where you start. Any of the games that have been released in English, aside from maybe the DS games, is pretty good.

And yes, I'm fairly certain Lyn was the first female Lord.

lyn didnt have a lot of fanservice attached to her.

she showed some leg but thats only really in concept and fanart, we dont actually see much of that in the game, and when we do its in combat sprite form, where she's busy being badass rather than trying to show anything off.

course, awakening's redesign added more leg iirc, but it also made her look even more badass so eh.

The Awakening redesign is so dumb. It literally made her 75% legs.

i think thats a bit of an overstateme-

no wait, her height preportions dont match up. she really is like 75% leg.

Lyn was the first female Lord, yes. She was then followed by Eirika in The Sacred Stones. Of course, there were other female characters before her who didn't hold the title but were still important to the story.

Also, The Sacred Stones is a good place to start since it's one of the easiest games in the series.

[up][up]Celica was the first female lord, actually, though there was a long, long gap between FE2 and FE7.

Then again, there's been a lot of female quasi-Lords, like Caeda in Marth's games or Elincia in Path of Radiance.

I sure said that!

I loved Lyn's Awakening design. She looked so damn cool.

[up][up] Celica belongs to the Priest class, not the Lord class.

She has teeny tiny feet too. It's like she has a pair of natural stilts.

Also, damn, Awakening really is more animu than previous Fire Emblems. Compare Lyn to her previous incarnation.

i think that was a case of perspective fail from the artist, mostly.

I should clarify: I'm not a huge fan of turn based strategy (I used to play them when I was younger, but at some point I started having problems getting into them, around the time I tried to play Disgaea and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance) and the idea of permanently losing characters if they die doesn't strike me as something newbie friendly. I've heard that Awakening changes this so that it's easier for folks new to the games to get into. However, I've also heard that Sacred Stones was also newbie-friendly, but for different reasons, which is why I was asking.

EDIT: Apparently more posts showed up while I was typing this one up...

[up][up][up] Try this.

[up] Really, even with prema death off, the Fire Emblem games are still Nintendo Hard. What makes TSS and Awakening so easy is that both give you access to infinite EXP and gold. But yes, Awakening lets you turn off perma death.

Yeah, it's not great.

I really hate a lot of Awakening's art direction and character design. Some of it's cool, but then there's shit like most female mounted units having pointless patches of bare skin (Wyvern Riders and Dark Knights being the worst examples).

@Customer: Sacred Stones is pretty easy. There's permadeath, but reloading usually isn't that painful.

For all intents and purposes, Celica was the first female lord in the series, even if she didn't have the Lord class.

eh, im still digging her design.

that the art has some not so stellar proportions isnt really a problem with the design itself so much as the artist.

im quite fond of awakenings art direction and roughly about half of its character design. there are problems yes but, ive seen far worse to consider this even close to egregious enough to actually bother me.

Her legs are longer than her torso and head combined.

That's not biologically possible.

It bothers me because previous games had really good design. All of the armour actually looked like armour, and there was never anything that really made me groan aside from Pegasus Knights and Lyn not wearing pants.

Alright, I'll try Sacred Stones then. Thanks. grin

...Er, just to clarify, with the exception of a few titles (such as the games Ike stars in), for the most part the plots of Fire Emblem games don't follow each other right?
