Seriously now, I most likely won't participate on the tournament ('cause I'm getting the Wii U version, most likely), but if I did, I'd prefer items.

I just think itemless Smash is kind of killing the point.

Everyone can play smash in their own way.Besides, its not like in a game like say Mario Kart where turning off items would be boring.Smash is still fun without items(but I do prefer them on).

I still think item-less Smash is better because it allows for far more advanced technique and mindgames. But apparently that's just me.

Smash is still a very rich and unique game without items, and the whole For Fun/Glory thing shows that both ways are considered legitimate choices in the eyes of the developers.

I'm fine with whatever. I plan to start playing my mains without items more often in this iteration, since I usually leave them on as I've never been really interested in playing without them (although I only find "No items" boring on large stages).

I mean, it's not like I think people who play without items are below me or anything. You can play without items if you want (or "For Glory", as they call it now), but I just don't really get it.

I suppose I should clarify: when playing with friends I'm totally fine with just going on random stages and using items, that's all fine and dandy. But when I want a serious and balanced (To some extent, at least as much as Smash will allow) match, I play with no items and only on certain stages. Items add a bit too much randomness to really develop a fair game.

For the record, there are certain items that can enhance a skill-centered Smash experience. Beam Sword, Super Scope, and Star Rod are some surprisingly good items that do make it more fun without feeling cheap. If someone has Gustbellows on though, you can leave me out of it. Some items enhance skill-centered play, others don't. Most items are either annoying, cheap, or skew the match in favor of someone based on luck.

I the demo, I once threw a Smart Bomb at Mario who dodged it. It was a dud so he immediately picked it up, threw it back at me, and it went off.

Fucking dud Smart Bombs.

We can have the finals and semifinals be without items but for sure we have to have some item matches.

...Also, I think we should wait until everybody has all the characters.

Since you can play against people using characters you haven't unlocked, I think that only really applies if someone was dead-set on using Lucina or another secret character.

I sure said that!

I'd be down for the tournament, too. But unfortunately, due to the way my paychecks go out, I'll probably get the game a week or so later than everyone else.

Wasn't the original plan to hold the tourney about a week or two after release so that way everyone could unlock the character they wanted to use and then get used to them?

My idea was to hold it a month after. That way everybody has plenty of time to get it and practice with the characters.

I like having the tournament being a month after the 3DS release. That way I can grab Lucina's fine ass and master her.
