The only item I really want to be in the tournament is smash ball, because Rule of Cool.

But the Smash Ball violates all the rules of tournament tradition: its appearance is random, its chance of breaking is random, its movement is random, and it can give the less skilled fighter the tipping advantage.

...so yeah, put it in~

Besides, Nintendo's OFFICAL OPEN tournament is 4 vs. 4 with all items on.

For the first round. It's 1v1 for the Top 16 with only the Smash Ball on and no items for Top 4 upward.

I still say we have separate tournaments, one with who-cares rules and one with standard tournament rules.

I don't know if I'd want to do a official tournament. I'm all for playing with random people, and I probably won't move on. But what if I do?

The pressure. surprised

I'd be up for tournaments on here though.

Maybe the prize can be like a golden profile page on the forums. Just so everyone can know you're the boss! tongue

You guys are setting up a tourney? I'm interested.

I personally prefer itemless matches because items automatically bring in a luck factor. Which I hate in a fighting game.

If we're doing a tournament, keep items off. They have their place and are suited for fun stuff, which we can also do, but most of them are not appropriate for that kind of setting. Nintendo is promoting the game with these tournaments, meaning they want to show off more aspects of the game.

Why is Game & Watch DK Jr. standalone on sale? It's in Game & Watch Gallery 3, which is a much better deal... if it weren't Europe-exclusive, that is.

I have absolutely no head for tournament organization, but I think doing a strictly-for-fun tournament so soon after the game's release would be best served by going for the Smash Invitational system, with assorted random stages and items on for the first rounds and the semifinals and finals being done in For Glory style, to give a sense of a climax being reached.

Can we at least put the items on low? I don't mind items too much, but they create way too much chaos when used on higher settings (especially since SSB 4 seems to really let loose in that regard).

Why am I so horrible with Pikachu's Final Smash. Even now that they made it "easier" with that little reticle, I still don't know how to shock enemies at the right time.

As usual, I take a position I mostly cribbed from Extra Credits. Namely that random elements can work, but you need a larger sample size. Hence a round Robin style instead of single elimination.

Well, yeah. I'd also advise dropping the low-input-high-output items like the Beetle or the Hammer or so one. The ones that basically are an "I Win" button.
