Regarding Yoshis, there's been 10 different colors of Yoshi within the Yoshi series.
The original SNES game had green, red, blue, cyan, yellow, purple, orange, and pink. Yoshi's story dropped purple and orange, but added black and white. Yoshi's Island DS had all 10 colors for the first time.
The six Yoshi colors in previous Smash games has traditionally been the six consistent colors; green, red, blue, cyan, yellow, and pink. If we're getting 8 colors this time, I wonder if the two new ones will be purple and orange, or black and white. I suspect the latter, they seem quite popular. Of course, it'd be nice if we could have all 10.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! As long as Cyan's in, I'm happy.

Wrong, the official Mario Wiki lists 12 Yoshi colors
. The two colors that aren't in the Yoshi's Island series are orange (the original game had brown, not orange) and magenta.

@Druplesnubb: Regarding brown vs. orange, the SNES one is meant to be orange, it just comes across as brown in the sprites. The official artwork
◊ and the DS version's lighter palette
make it more clear that it's orange. As for magenta, I was only talking about the ones present in Yoshi's own series.
That being said, I'd like to see brown Yoshis in the future. And gray ones.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! It doesn't have to be Birdo herself. Just slap her color scheme on Yoshi and add the iconic puffy bow on his head for the English versions.

He's too big for one color.

Ridley's been purple, blue, red, greenish, brownish, and metallic gray.
I do suspect that Ridley is the purple Yoshi, though, fed up with being excluded from Mario Kart and taking his anger out on the Metroid universe.

Throw me into the pile of people hoping for all eight Yoshi's Island versions of Yoshi.
