Honestly if Ridley turns out to be just a stage hazard and people start complaining about it I'm going to be seriously annoyed because Sakurai already hinted at him being a boss long ago.
I don't even get why people are so desperate for him. Even if he's just a boss he's still there to give Metroid extra representation just like in Brawl. I'm totally fine with Samus being alone, she's the only character in her series that's really relevant anyway.
Tons of people suggest a Mage Mii and I'd be all for that too, but I'd personally like to see some sort of "animal" or "creature" type of mii with different animal costumes and attacks. But then again maybe Im just saying that because I want the Dinosaur suit from Tomodachi Life so I can play as Godzilla...
I'd say the Brawler and Swordsman Mii cover that area already. The costumes allow you to make something similar to a Werewolf with the Brawler version. Although tail attacks could be cool. Claw attacks are almost identical to punches for the most part depending the moveset. I think it's probably because differentiating Brawler and Animal is a little harder. IMO, I think the Gunner Mii is meant to be a similar idea to a Mage Mii, a projectile fighter.

Shadow?I'm betting more classes will be released as DLC eventually, if there's DLC at all. Especially since they have their own CSS — more classes won't crowd out the roster space.
I was personally indifferent to their possibility at first (though I did hope for some kind of character maker), but Tomodachi Life made me super-attached to them and they quickly became one of my most-wanted newcomers. Even moreso during the four days between first playing it and when they were confirmed.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerTime and technical issues are factors, and so are the inclinations of the people making the game, and what they think makes sense or is deserving.
I have a message from another time...Full Moon: Samus is not the only relevant character. Ridley is her primary antagonist and appears in 6 out of 9 games. That's hardly irrelevant. Ridley is one of the few iconic Nintendo villains that has yet to be a playable character in Smash.
@Miis: Maybe in the next game they can add in more variations. I'd be interested in a beast or mage type too.
I just know I'll have a lot of fun making Takane a Mii Gunner.

"They'd have to program more" isn't an issue, regardless. That's my point. They're well aware of that and will do so if they want.
Which means that "If they want", "Time issues", and "Technical issues" are the only thing that stops a character from being playing. An NPC role(no matter what it is) just clearly does not. Well, money issues too in the case of 3rd Party, but that's pretty much covered under "If they want" anyway(from both the 3rd party and Sakurai/his developers).

Couldn't agree more. Those are the two most relevant Metroid characters of all time.

Shadow?"If they want" is a bit broad. That itself can be spread into a few points, like "Do they want this enough to spend money/time(which is money) on it?", "Do they think this makes sense as a feature?", and "Do they think people will want it?"
Sadly, those are answers pretty much only they have, so really, time will tell.

I have a message from another time...I'm not saying it's just Metroid although I think DK and Metroid are the only two Nintendo franchises left that are iconic enough to warrant their main villain getting in. Mario already has Bowser and to a lesser extent Wario. Zelda has Ganon. Pokemon doesn't have a straight up villain although you could count Mewtwo if you want. Star Fox and Kirby have Wolf and Dedede as a kind of villain/anti-hero hybrid. That just leaves Metroid and DK. None of the other series are big enough to warrant one in my mind.
On the topic of DK, I don't think Nintendo owns the rights to K. Rool or the Kremlings anymore. There had to have been a reason they switched to tiki alien things, right?

@Enlong: That'd be relevant if it mattered. If a character is to be programmed, them being programmed into another role is not going to stop this. Only time or technical issues have any effect on this in actual game design.
Riki has two completely unique gameplay roles(and different programming for each). That outright proves Ridley can do the same. I will laugh if they just make him playable and not a stage hazard, though. But who knows.
