[...]another forced inclusion of the Koopalings – nothing against them, but they’re kind of feeling shoved down our throats lately[...]
So the Koopalings are the new "Nintendo's Lightning", eh? I guess that means that "Bowser Jr." is actually "Koopa Clown Car with a Koopa Kid Pilot", which I'm fine with. I mean, I know the the Koopa Clown Car isn't an actual character (despite its expressiveness), but it was one of the most memorable things about Bowser in Super Mario World to me. I loved that thing to death.

Also, how the heck you can complain about "New I Ps" and Duck Hunt dog in same post? <_< You make it sound like you are just being hurt about your favourites not getting in

I'll be keeping shit to spoilers because, y'know, leaks.

I can understand the Mario franchise being "over-represented" with both Rosalina and Bowser Jr. being in, but if anything....who else can be added in now? Daisy, Toad, Waluigi, Paper Mario, Kamek....all popular choices, but all needing work to really make them stand-out. Bowser Jr. doesn't take much and certainly has the demand, and while Rosie might be getting pimped out by Nintendo a bit much she does work by taking aspects of the Galaxy games.

Not counting Dr. Mario because I was never quite a fan. Pokemon also has a shit-ton of reps, but it also has a shit-ton of roster potential. Just wish something like Sceptile was in to balance the starter types, though.

Also, wouldn't including the likes of DHD and Mega Man be against Nintendo simply pimping out their current series? I mean, unless I missed a Duck Hunt revival or something. EDIT: Shit, Greninja'd

[up][up]To be fair, as clever as he is, Sakurai can sometimes also be very arbitrary.

But hey! Shulk's in and looks neat.

I sure said that!

[up][up][up]Besides the obligatory retro character, as I've pointed out, every new franchise represented has had a game released in the past five years. It's advertising, plain and simple.

And yes. Yes, I am really damn bitter about being consistently ignored by Nintendo (indirectly but still) for having the balls! to like an underloved series of all things. I hate not being able to talk to people about this and have them know exactly what I'm saying. I hate waiting and waiting in the vain hope that some day Nintendo will show Panel de Pon some love. I hate getting my hopes up only to have them all come crashing down. I absolutely fucking hate it.

The most important and relevant characters to Nintendo's history are obviously not the most popular ones. I'm being sarcastic.

Dude, seriously, stop it. Your series is not the only Nintendo game that hasn't had a new game for several years. It's an obscure series that most wouldn't even know about even know about if it wasn't for the flower item in Smash. Cut your fucking drama.

We know that Greninja getting in didn't have anything to do with popularity. He's popular now, but no one really knew him back when those decisions were made. Xenoblade doesn't even have all that much cultural penetration considering so many You Tube comments for the Shulk trailer are basically "Who?"

Yes, popularity may dictate some choices, but not every one. If Sakurai doesn't feature a character from Panel de Pon, it could mean no one is really requesting one, or it may be that Sakurai can't think of something interesting enough to justify one. It's not totally cut and dry.

And them linking people to the most recent game in that series on the character pages... well yeah, those are the most recent reference points.

Have to admit, thinking on it, it'll be interesting to see how Smash V is handled- Assuming Sakurai isn't going for a fourth last Smash Bros under his belt, who'd take the helm?

Not that it wouldn't be interesting if Sakurai did come back, but y'know.

I sure said that!

If it makes you feel any better, I don't have a clue who Shulk is, and Xenoblade isn't my type of game - so the advertising hasn't done much.

But the "advertisement" part of the new Smash Bros has been kind of obvious, hasn't it? Each new character page has "want to know more? Visit the official (insert recent title here) website!"

[up][up] Miyamoto could be good as Sakurai's potential replacement in Smash V. But I'll still bet that Smash V will still have Sakurai. He did create it after all.

[up]55356 + 55358 I've said before that sometimes I feel like I have to be vocal about being a fan of this series because I'm afraid I won't be heard otherwise. It's obscure, y'know. I want to raise awareness somehow.

But... yeah, I can't very well be happy about one of my favorite franchises being dead in the water, but the way I'm expressing my fanhood is not how I should be expressing it. It's putting more people off than anything. I get very passionate sometimes, maybe I should put that passion more towards positive stuff instead of just constant irritating ranting.

Precisely. Hey, I'm all for seeing new and (somewhat) obscure faces amongst the big name guys; but when the people supporting them start acting like that... Yeah, very irritating.

And also, that TV-Game assist trophy that's basically Pong? That is some REALLY obscure history right there. So it's not like they're not looking for weird stuff to use.

That's probably a point in your favour Midna, but it's ultimately their history to pick and choose from.

I wonder if that was the equivalent to the Japanese reaction to Little Mac, whom I've heard wasn't all that well known in that country.

And I honestly only know of Shulk from the many discussions about him here...

On a minor note, I feel like nigelstack's avatar would make a better "Character Selection" pic of Shulk than what they're using currently.

Apparently Xenoblade sold above expectations in America, even if the actual numbers weren't all that great. Plus Operation Rainfall was pretty big. So he's not that obscure, no more than the likes of Palutena and Lucina at least.

Yeah. It's hilarious how they used a start-of-battle quote from Shulk in a trailer focusing on Shulk in battle.

Wonderful 101 was kinda doomed from the start- The genre meant it wouldn't do so hot in Japan, and the art style meant it wouldn't do so well in America.

It apparently performed pretty well in France, though.

I don't mind them including characters from recent games if they're characters I like. I like Xenoblade, so I'm happy to see Shulk in.

Not gonna lie this is probably my favorite roster in any smash game.

Never played Xenoblade, but Shulk does look cool. Like his vest and his accent and his sword...and his skills sound interesting.

I do fear for the Brawl veterans though. Not much time left to show them up.

You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stay
