It was really weird when I first heard that he was an actual 3D model and not a sprite. They did a really good job making him look flat.

[up]If they can make a CG model, they can make an in-game model.

A sprite would look the same from any angle, because it's entirely two-dimensional.

My understanding of how Mr. Game & Watch has been rendered since Melee is that they make a standard, albeit one-textured, 3D model and then make him flat via a program for doing so, which is also used for all the models on the Flatzone stages.

I sure said that!

But...his model is shown to be 3D when Snake grabs him.

I'm pretty sure his model is actually two-dimensional, though? You can see it if you turn the camera.

Not sure if everyone knew that already, this discussion is kind of confusing.

You can also kind of notice it if Mr. Game & Watch gets a Metal Box and then is grabbed by someone like Snake in Brawl. And I do believe it was mentioned somewhere (probably in the Dojo during the Brawl days) that Mr. Game & Watch is a 3D model that's rendered flat for the purposes of his aesthetic (as Pulse mentioned; it also happens in the Flat Zone stages).

Yeah, Mr. Game & Watch functions differently from other characters. Notably, the Brawl hacking community has been having trouble editing his model without loading another character's files (module) over him, because he almost has no model.

...they've been having trouble until recently, that is. Someone managed to make a program that edits his vectors.

Oh, good point. I didn't consider that this happened to other characters on that stage, too.

And who's the Green Mario guy who's at the end of the roster?

I think he's from some obscure game called Mario Is Missing

I would very much enjoy my horned little darling Pascal to be a powerful brawler despite her shortness.

Maybe Tennis Mario. Mario Tennis was my favorite Mario game for a long while.

Also I do believe that there are still more to unlock. Like Dance Dance Revolution Mario and Bucket Over His Head Mario.

Hey, Mario is short and fat, too. I wonder what his body fat level is.

I hope we're all aware that G-Dub isn't actually 2-D, because then he'd be imperceptible when we turned the camera, and incapable of holding things.

And would also fall to his death since he'd slice straight through the stage and anyone who gets in his way [lol]

I think he does actually turn imperceptible when you turn the camera by 90 degrees. And applying real-world logic to a two-dimensional Smash Bros character seems... kinda silly.

I like to imagine the reason Game and Watch doesn't slice through the earth or anything is because of the outline. He doesn't need an outline in the G&W games because the world is 2D there, but to interact with a 3D world he gets a special somewhat-3D outline along his razor edges that keeps him stable.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

Dimensional physics are confusing, especially when you take fiction into account. All I know is that the Mr. G&Ws are in fact made of matter that can exist in three dimensions, assuming the SSE is canon for the Game & Watch series. Which I do.
