I finally can play Smash 64 again!
I realize that I am bad at it, and the controller's sticks have not aged gracefully.
Also, why is there a D-pad if no game uses it? Tradition?
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Kirby 64 uses it exclusively.
But other than that... maybe?

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Nintendo just seems to loathe traditional controllers. Think about everything that came after the N64 controller. The random Gamecube controller, the Wiimote and Nunchuck, the Wii U's tablet... even the Classic Controller eschewed the traditional handles. Then there's other devices like the Wii Fit board, or failed devices like the Vitality Sensor. Of course, some of these things were more successful than others.

Gamecube controller looks weird and uncomfortable but it is my favorite controller.

Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureEh, I've never had any issues with the layout of the Gamecube controller.
Besides, other companies have had their share of weird controller designs. The Xbox's Duke controller and the PS 3's boomerang for example, though the latter did get redesigned.
I'm not sure if symmetry is a good thing here. Or even simplicity. I'm far more overwhelmed by any given PS controller past the first because there's just all these lefts and rights and every button looks the same, it's almost as bad as using a keyboard. With a well-designed Gamecube game, the A button is the main button, and it's nice and big and right there in the middle, B is important and easy to reach but smaller...
I really love the GC controller. I like that the control stick and C-stick aren't level; the buttons are more important than the C-stick, so it makes sense that the lower-priority control pad and C-stick would be along the bottom while the more important control stick and face buttons would be more level with thumbs.
As for the Z button, I like that. Having two shoulder buttons on each side strikes me as a bit superfluous. The asymmetry of just one additional shoulder button helps make it more distinct. I often get confused between the two sets of shoulder buttons on the Wii U or other consoles.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I love the GC controller and I try to use it whenever I can get away with it thanks to the Mayflash Adapter. Unfortunately, though, some games are Pro Controller only, and others prominently use the ZL button... -_-

Very carefully and with a lot of practice.
It's nice that Nightmare's blackout affects the CP Us now. Top THAT, Togepi.
It reminds me of how in Mariokart, the Blooper can still affect the CPU drivers, in that they start swerving left to right a little, and as such, slow down a bit.

Oh, there's a Streetpass minigame, eh? That's nice.

@Pulse, earlier
: My post was more in response to Irene's above mine, but a few other posts popped up in between and I didn't have time to fix it before I left for work.
I agree that it's nice to see Nightmare's coat finally have its stars on it though.
On 3DS Smash: I'll be downloading it, although I'll need a new (larger) SD card before that happens. My current one's already full of games...
