I had previously thought that Advance Wars is one of those bigger Nintendo franchises that could probably use a character.
I really don't see the issue with including one of the COs. Admittedly, they aren't as directly involved as the Lords or indeed any of the the units in FE, but they're all clearly militarily trained and are all involved in the story, however much that means.
Then again, there also hasn't been an Advance Wars game since Days of Ruin, so...!

I sure said that!I wouldn't mind one of them being in the game but I'm not sure how they'd do things. Combat in Advance Wars revolves around generic vehicles and armies so using a singular character would be a strange way of representing the series. It's not a futuristic world either so they can't just give them generic futuristic weaponry like what happened with the Star Fox characters.
My thought- Perhaps have specials involving the summoning of helper units as the map sprites/map sprite-based models of the various unit types.
So, a standard special that calls in an Artillery unit to fire a round, which then sits in place and fires up to two more if someone gets closde enough but which (harmlessly) explodes at one hit, a side special of skateboarding forward on a tank that does similar, a down special that calls in two Infantry and a Mech to provide the most number of units for the least amount of input/output, and an up special of conjuring a Battle Chopper to carry them up before it begins hovering back and forth over the arena and fires missiles for a time?
This obviously is more for a CO from the first three games than from Days of Ruin, of course.
I sure said that!Well, the respective character's C.O. Power would be the obvious answer, but the trick would be how this would be represented.
Alternatively, perhaps it could be played that every unit used used in Pulse's idea get temporarily upgraded, to grant additional damage output and knockback:
Up-special: Battle Helicopter replaced by a rising Fighter Jet, which gives much more lift in the recovery. The fact that Fighter Jets in the games can't attack ground units would probably be Hand Waved by replacing its air-to-air missiles with air-to-surface rounds for when it circles above the stage.
(alternative: normal Up-special would be a Transport Helicopter without battle capabilities, which gets upgraded to a Battle Helicopter during the FS that functions per Pulse's idea)
Side-special: Tank upgraded to Medium Tank, with more powerful cannons and superior armour.
Down-special: More Infantry and Mech units than normal are deployed from an APC to increase their potential damage output.
Neutral-special: Artillery backed up by Rocket Launcher, which, alongside the former, launches more powerful salvos at a greater range.
Additionally, during that period, the stage gets sporadically attacked by distant Bombers and Battleships.
I think that this would be a good way of fitting in more references to the many types of unit that can be deployed in the Nintendo Wars franchise (though admittedly more constricted to the Advance Wars games than the earlier ones), even if it still cuts most of the naval units and others like the Anti-Air and Recon units.

Switch FC code: SW-4420-1809-1805Yeah, I could see Andy, for instance, showing up with normals that use those giant wrenches of his and specials that place units that do certain things - kind of a mix of Pac-Man's summoning of stuff and Rosalina placing the Luma.
Either that or specials where he uses various units from the games instead - like a Wario-esque side B where he rides a Recon or something.
His Final Smash could be a Rocket Strike - they could have the screen that comes up in the games where two units battle each other come onto the screen showing the Rockets firing, and then the stage gets pelted with missiles.
Something like...
- Neutral B: Spawns Infantry at Andy's position. Infantry run forward slowly, infrequently firing rounds that disappear a short distance from them. Infantry cause small amounts of damage and knockback both on contact and when firing. Infantry will run off of edges. Holding the button causes more to appear, with a full regiment appearing after five seconds. Cannot move while charging - if done in the air, Andy will fall while charging and not hang onto ledges.
- Side B: Spawns a Recon at Andy's position, which he jumps on top of and rides a short distance. Does damage on contact. Andy is specifically riding this , not controlling it, and thus he can jump off at any time, and enemies can ride it if they time their umps correctly.
- Down B: Spawns Artillery at Andy's position. Can only be performed on the ground. Artillery stays in place, and fires a shot - causing an explosion with a sizable area of effect - at Andy's position upon another Down-B input. Does not damage Andy himself. Has limited ammo, and auto-destroys when out.
- Up B: Spawns Transport Plane above Andy, which he holds onto with a rope. The plane itself is being controlled, and can be moved in any direction - Andy being dragged by the rope does not move, but can perform aerial normals.
All of Andy's summons can be destroyed - Infantry with one hit, others with a set amount of damage. His normals would all be some variation of smacking enemies with his wrenches.

Mr. Game & Watch taking out his anger over not being confirmed yet.
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyHmm... which series that doesn't currently have a playable character could be considered well placed to have a playable character, and thus have a series revival similar to Pit? I'd say:
- Custom Robo
- Advance Wars
- Whatever game Takamaru was from
- Sin And Punishment (though they did try a revival already)
- Golden Sun
I assume people will say whatever game Shulk was from.
Shulk's game is getting a sequel on the Wii U, granted one with a disconnected story.
I mostly want a Custom Robo character so that they'll start giving us the series in America.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaWell, Saki is already an Assist Trophy, and got a revival, so I'm not sure why it's on that list.
Golden Sun is still fairly recent with the latest DS game, though. But getting a 4th game alone would be nice, especially if it's a bit better than Dark Dawn(it wasn't bad by any means, but does have quite a few flaws. Too many No Point of Returns, an extreme difficulty drop, and this one is purely imo, the first Female Venus user who can't use heavy swords. But only because extremely specific heavy swords were made ''only for Venus users". To make it more annoying, there's exactly two of those swords. -_-).

Shadow?Oh, I didn't know there was a newer Golden Sun game. How long ago?
I'd love to see Ridley announced to this song...
But he's too big for the video!
Camelot's been working on Mario Tennis and Mario Golf for 3DS in the four years since then, so I have some hope that they'll get to make a new Golden Sun now that those are done. But I think Dark Dawn sold worse than the GBA games, so I don't have a lot of confidence...
Honestly, I'm hoping for Golden Sun and Custom Robo in particular to get playable representatives in this one just because I feel like otherwise by the time the next Smash Bros rolls around, they'll be considered completely irrelevant.
Welcome to th:|Dark Dawn's fairly bad reception is also why I think if we get a playable rep, Isaac is a bit more likely than Matthew. It also helps that Isaac is the first protagonist.
That said, just having a playable rep from the series is great in itself.
And having a sequel to Dark Dawn might be a good thing too if they heavily improve on the series, as it gets a chance to bring back the fans who were disappointed with the latest game.
Shadow?I liked Dark Dawn for the dark elementals and the characters, but not for the Point of No Return in the middle that stopped me from getting all the summons, and how I actually haven't even beaten the last boss yet.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stayI really want a new Custom Robo game to hit the States, and I figure this would be a good bridge into it.
Personally, I found Dark Dawn's gameplay largely fine, about on par with the first game. But I think its big problem is that after seven years of absence, it should have been the series' triumphant return, bringing back the characters and places you remember and showing how they've changed in the years since. And instead...it seems more like the buildup to another sequel where they'll do all that.
It almost feels like it's mocking you at times, with how it tells you all about what's going on in Bilibin and how a bunch of the old characters are living there, and then blocks you off from going there. Or how Piers is sailing around doing stuff throughout the game and you keep just barely missing him. And not only that, but the game takes a really long time to get to its own main plot.
Speaking of Custom Robo, this conversation led me to just discover that the developer
behind the series seems to have been dropped by Nintendo since Custom Robo Arena...considering that, it seems a lot less likely that we'll ever get a new one, unfortunately...

Welcome to th:|i hated dark dawn so much.
isaac turned into a complete and utter dickbag for some reason, tyrell is a complete moron and it took around half the game for him to get tolerable (mainly because he started mouthing off to bigger idiots), you dont get mind read until around the halfway point or later, and the first time you get it is a fuckin tease because the character with it leaves the party before you can use it, ace has the most embarassingly useless disguise ive seen in a long while, everyone needs to get a reactionshot and some dialogue at every little thing, even if they have nothing to say, i found the villanous duo to be pretty boring compared to the last 2, the game has several points of no return PLUS world-map djinn (why!?) and i felt the puzzles were weaker than in previous games, the party is too large for one game and the characters suffer a helluva lot for it (the final party member is basically completely irrelevent and the water adept is almost immediately replaced by another), the new emoticon system seems...baffling and sorta redundant at times, the trend of flat characters continue... etc...
i did like karis and svette and himi and eoleo though. (though that last one is an asshole who makes it hard to like), the graphics are nice and pretty, the music is good and the encyclopedia function was pretty sweet.
ideally, if not isaac, rather than matthew the one to get in should be one of the 4 above. preferably svette.

I've seen numerous people hoping for an Advance Wars character. In fact, two of them are among those being officially considered to be the next Project M Clone Engine character because there's enough demand for it.
