It's pretty easy to get a Brawl mod working, actually- Depending on the version, all you need to do is either boot up with the mod on an SD card or head for one of the modes that checks the SD card, like Photo Viewer or Stage Builder.
I personally prefer mods that fix Brawl's balance issues without turning it into Melee, myself.
And of course, Brawl- is pretty good for a laugh.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — Ultimatepheerthis smash-bros newcomer e-shop sale would be really awesome if i had enough space on my sd card to get either kid icarus or animal crossing OTL
regarding project M, i have pretty much everything i need to get it workin on dolphin buuuut i just cant be assed. i mean, 2 months from now i can just get the new game and play online in that. smash bros balance has never actually bothered me much.
This has probably been asked before, but anyone have some secret characters they're pining for? I'm hoping for at least one of these: Knuckles, Metal Sonic, Mewtwo, Psyduck, Raichu, Fierce Deity Link, Vaati, Boshi, Birdo, Chunky Kong, Lloyd Irving, and Siegfried Schtauffen. Tatanga, Wart, and Bass as assist trophies would be pretty cool, too... Oh, and while I'm dreamin', the shopkeeper from Link's Awakening. You know what I'm talking about, right? Instant death beam!
Move the control stick slowly in a given direction and then press A. To do a smash, you tap the control stick in a given direction while pressing A.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! It's more "lightly move."
If you're walking, you may very well do it on accident.

It's not really all that hard to do. The distinction between a tilt and a smash is large enough that preforming the move you want is easy enough. I'd have to play the game again to be 100% certain but I do believe the easy way to quickly figure out which one you're going to do is by listening to your control stick. If you hear a loud tap as the stick hits the edge then you'll do a smash attack. If you don't, it'll be a tilt.
I briefly tried Project M and can't say I liked it or that I'd ever recommend it to anyone. It's hard to describe why, but it generally feels wrong and for my mains (Ike and Marth), made both feel much less pleasant to play.
The best way to first practice tilts is to have the control stick already tilted about half a second before you press A. That way, you don't accidentally do a Smash Attack.
Just learning to control the amount of force you exert on the stick and/or how much to delay your button press is good for further training.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

Annnnddd I hate page-topping.
