Definitely choose Brawl. It's got a ton of new characters and 10 bosses to practice on. Plus, Cantavanda is an awesome character to play with.

Understood. Do I have to just frame things? I don't think I'd be good at that.

[up] "Cantavanda"?

Kyu, if I may ask, why do you always call Meta Knight "Cantavanda"?

There was a user on a forum with a meta knight AV. I never knew what the character was called, so it's kinda become a Freudian Slip for me.

Although there is a forum fanfiction character based off cantavanda that looks like a metal robot knight, so you can easily see where the confusion comes into play. XD

Get Project M instead. It's better than both of them, and the next version's going to come with tools to make learning the game a lot easier.

OK, but that's a mod. How do I get it?

[up]It's a free download from their website. There's even a version where you don't have to hack your Wii to play it. (You still need a legal copy of Brawl for it to work, though.)

Are you trying to practice for the new game, or for an existing game?

The newest game will probably have more in common with Brawl than with Melee, so it'd be a good starting point, though it is subject to change, of course. If you're trying to get good at one of them on a competitive level, Melee has a much bigger tournament scene, but also a much higher skill floor thanks to its faster physics and exploits (Hence the larger tournament scene).

Project M is a mod, not its own game.

I figured that. I hear that Brawl tournaments use Project M? Or no?

My personal problems with Brawl are for ethical reasons. Though I don't really like the gameplay, either, that really takes a backseat.

[up][up]D U H. But most fans consider it it's own installment because it's that different from its source.

[up]No. Brawl tournaments use vanilla Brawl. Project M tournaments use Project M.

Depends. Some use it, some don't. Depends on the group organizing it.

To be clear, despite being a Mod, Project M doesn't play that similar to Melee or Brawl. It's unique in its own right.

That said, every game plays quite differently and there's really no game to practice if you want to get good at 4 outside of, well, 4. You can adapt to a different one, but none will give you an extremely similar experience.

I say try which ever ones you have the system for and go with whichever one you like. They're all great games in their own right, after all.

Personally, I avoid Project M due to needing to mod your game to run it.

I don't necessarily want to get good at 4. I might wanna do some tournaments at some point, but I dunno.

To be perfectly honest, though, I think SSF2 will be the closest to 4 in terms of gameplay style because it has a similar goal of trying to strike a balance between Brawl and Melee.

[up]x3: You can still play Brawl, you know. PM can't run outside of an external launching program, so it doesn't edit anything on the disk.

Super Smash Flash is different though in being a flash game. It doesn't have the same community Melee/Brawl/Project M has. Plus, there's a lot of characters in it that are from anime and such. IIRC, there's some fanmade Sonic characters in it.

is there a fan SSB with Fawful in it? I saw one somewhere. Never played it. I assumed it was 4's roster.

I'll just give a quick history lesson for a sec.

Super Smash Flash 1 was a college project organized by Cleod and some of his buddies over a period of a couple of months. It was a bug-ridden trainwreck, but it wasn't supposed to be anything serious.

Super Smash Flash 2 was also going to be a similar project, until 2010, when they started to take on a tone of professionalism. They completely changed the focus. Total Retool. They want to make it a good, competitively viable game now, and have you seen v0.9b? They're succeeding.

Yes, the anime characters that were programmed before 2010 are in by Grandfather Clause. But the original characters have been deconfirmed years ago and are not coming back. And what's more, planned-but-not-programmed anime characters were cut with them.

*deep breath*

Sorry. SSF1, Goku, Ichigo, and Naruto are all Old Shames of the SSF2 fandom.

Yeah, some of it was.

I have no idea if Ike Climbers was ever made real. They do sound cool, though. I mean, I've seen some fun costume mods like Hammer Brothers for them.
