It's less of Lucina being a character thats lazy, but the fact that they had Chrom, he couldn't find a way to make him unique, and cut him. But he also didn't want to decrease the roster. So he just said "screw it." and made an Alt into a clone. Even if there are differences in her specials and normals, they seem to be pretty minor.
He couldn't make Chrom unique, so he cut him for...a clone? It doesn't seem to add up right.
Well, Lucina, alt or clone, was gonna be in the game regardless of if Chrom was playable or not. Robin really was the one who beat him out.

I got the impression from the source that Chrom was someone who was evaluated as a possible contender, not the one who was decided on as the newcomer at any point.
...people really need to quit whining about Lucina. She's a slightly ascended alt and a nice bonus with no cost to anyone else's slot.

What is a fandom? A miserable little pile of flame wars! 3DS FC: 0387-9377-7408 PSN ID: Raven King SageChrom was never in development, so that's not a "cut".
Sakurai considered him, but he couldn't think of any way to make him unique.
He wasn't "replaced" with Lucina, she was added as a costume for Marth before he decided to make some small changes to her and give her a slot. Which doesn't take much effort, so hardly "stealing" anyone's spot.
Robin was chosen over Chrom, not Lucina. Don't blame her.
Anyway, even as a clone of Marth, I think she's way better choice for a newcomer than Chrom.
A Vocal Minority lamenting that a clone replaced another. I can't stop laughing at the realization of how ironic that is.
Like anniversaries mean all that much to Sakurai.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectPretty much what Moth 13 said. Also, if we're going to get a quick clone, might as well pad out the female roster a little(especially with a character who can't be male too). It's a win-win, imo. I can't wait to see how different Lucina is. Probably minor.
That said, since Sakurai changed Ike's flames to blue now, I would not mind Roy as an alt for him with the only difference being his flames are red in that particular set of costumes. I know he'd be easy to make a quick clone with some minute differences, possibly just his old B moves.
If Sakurai wants to pad out the roster after putting all the bigger characters(as in how much time they take to make) in, I don't mind these clones. It means more and more, and they aren't actually the same overall, which brings an interesting and fun set of gameplay to the overall series. I've loved them all, honestly. Yes, even Pichu(but I find him way easier to play than regular Pikachu in Melee, not that he's better, but Pika's major nerf didn't help).
Shadow?Someone actually pointed out how not having those closer to time up is actually a good refinement of mechanics:
So yeah, it seems small, but seriously, this is one of those little changes that really does just help the game out. Good update.

Though, those are always hilarious. I "won" a match during sudden death that way. Got star ko'ed, and while he was watching me die my opponent got blindsided by the "hurry up" bobombs and died off the side.
Hiding on edge of the screen was my bestest friend when things like that could happen...or knowing where Bob-ombs would spawn the least or "not at all"

I like how they've unofficially reintroduced the veterans with the newcomer videos...Mr. Game and Watch with Pac-Man and Captain Falcon with the Fire Emblemites.
They probably couldn't do that with all the old characters, but when they can...
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stay
