Corocoro is official, so no one is going to bother spoiling that. No one would bother spoiling unofficial sources anyway, but this is still official. Plus we may not actually be getting anyone new. I think they did something similar for Brawl, but didn't actually reveal anyone.
Anyway, the game is releasing in Japan 3 months before America. You're not going to avoid spoilers without a complete internet blackout.
Edit: I mean 3 weeks. They're not that slow thankfully.

That's pretty much what I'm going to do...
I guess then just advanced warning of when people will start posting about this official leak. Though if it really only is starting characters and stages I might stick around. I don't care about the 3DS's stages, and I'm sure we'll already know pretty much every starting character by the time the game releases anyway.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! What's an "official" leak, an "unintentional" letting out of information that they were supposed to keep under wraps?
There's something tsk-tskable about that. If there was something they actually wanted people to know then they would actually announce it instead of letting it unceremoniously slip out for people to fight about its authenticity.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stayFor a fanservice-fueled game like this, a huge amount of emphasis in the hype-train is finding out who gets in. After all, even the dumbest of the Fan Dumb knows not everyone can make it in, and as the saying goes "Every character is someone's favorite". So "spoilers" are who actually manages to get in; for some it's the unlockables, and for others it's the roster entirely.
The only way to surely avoid said spoilers, however, is to basically swear off the internet, or at least anything video-game-related. Good luck with that.

I mainly want to avoid unlockable characters, yeah. Which is going to be nigh-impossible; even if I drop this thread, people will use pictures of the characters as forum avatars, or mention it in other threads, and I can't use Youtube for anything since the related videos will likely include spoilers if I watch anything tangentially related.
I'm going to try, though. I figure if I put effort into actively avoiding it, I'll only be spoiled on one or maybe two characters.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!i was doing a pretty good job of avoiding hype (general rule) until heavy ddr slammed open the door to the fire emblem thread and screamed at the top of his lungs that lucina and robin got in smash bros and then i was pretty much obligated to check this thread out in the time it took to get the official site running (10 minutes for...some reason) and well, once you start with a thread, its hard to just stop :I
isnt it something like 3 months till it comes out though? eh...that bothersome place inbetween being too far away to care and too close to not care...

I'm still not sure if I want to avoid spoilers or not. On one hand, I really want to know if my two wanted newcomers made it (as well as what's going down with Pokémon characters and at-risk-for-removal characters). On the other, I want to reserve the surprise for myself and feel satisfaction when I'm unlocking characters. Quite a quandary.
What is a fandom? A miserable little pile of flame wars! 3DS FC: 0387-9377-7408 PSN ID: Raven King SageYeah, that's my second concern after avatars. Like, I'll be in the Metroid thread, figuring I'm safe from Smash Bros. spoilers, and then someone will barge in to say "RIDLEY IS PLAYABLE GUYS!".
But we'll see how I do. Worst part is, I'm holding out for SSB for Wii U, so I have months to dodge spoilers rather than just the few weeks between the 3DS version's releases.

Yeah, hence why I said "video-game-related" in general. This shit tends to fly fast, and for something as highly anticipated as Smash news basically go at Ludicrous Speed. You really wanna avoid spoilers, you really gotta commit to going full cold-turkey, and even then you're still pretty bound to have someone spoiled.
Personally, learning the roster as we get closer has become just as exciting for me as not knowing until release. I guess all the FG hype trains I've been on have gotten me used to it. It doesn't help that I actually don't have a way to get this game myself.

At the very least, even if they just say the starter roster, it'll be nice to finally see whether all the secret vets are still secret and which newcomers need unlocking (unless the unlocks end up different between 3DS and Wii U, of course.)
The New Age of Awesome is here! Not even the sky is the limit!Sakurai posted this on his twitter.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."

Speaking of unofficial stuff, what is you guys's opinion's on the character page's entries for Robin and Lucina mentioning the Gematsu Leak under Unexpected Character? It bugs me for some reason, but at the same time I can see why it would make them unexpected additions.
What about you guys?
