I was going to say that the "least relevant Lord" title is reserved solely for Lyn, but it looks like someone beat me to it.
Hmm. So she has the same moveset but two different properties. So that means she gets her own slot, but she didn't take anywhere near the development time that your average newcomer gets.
I'm glad Sakurai explained at least. I honestly wasn't expecting a straight answer from him.
Now we can put that to rest, and I can stop being called a moron by people in this thread (though not by name) for taking the unpopular side of the argument and trusting the gameplay footage over the promotional material.

What is a fandom? A miserable little pile of flame wars! 3DS FC: 0387-9377-7408 PSN ID: Raven King SageNo, she lost plot relevance after she joins the party, whether she dies or not. Seriously, pay attention, she literally does nothing that affects the plot after that. In fact, she does nothing before that either since even though she came from the future to give a warning, the people she warned decide that doing absolutely nothing about it is the best policy.
Don't let her cuteness fool you. Awakening is 100% about Chrom and Robin's bromance.

Chapter 21 would like a word with you. I'd say that almost killing the Avatar due to her determination not to let the Bad Future come to pass is a big deal.
Unrelated: That Game FA Qs quote from earlier was just depressing.

I'm not saying she doesn't exist, I'm saying she doesn't affect the plot. It would be trivial to rewrite the story without her. You really don't have to change anything.
Unlike Lyn, who is the subject of an extended tutorial and has her own plotline. Whether or not it's relevant to the other plotline of the game, she still has more presence, and you'd need to come up with a separate way to introduce the characters that first join her, etc.
…I'll concede to that point.
Lyndis and Lucina have about equal relevance, then, or…Irrelevance, then. Lucina's more closely tied to the main conflict, while Lyndis's Tale fleshes out and builds up some side scrubs.

You might want to spoiler tag that.

The New Age of Awesome is here! Not even the sky is the limit!Well, the Internet will unavoidably spoil the whole thing anyway. Coro Coro might as well try to beat them to it.

In regards to Gamefaqs and the word "bias": Gamefaqs thinks Sakurai has a bias for everything.
- Has a Mario and a Pokemon bias because they have the most characters - Has a Kid Icarus and Kirby bias because he puts things from those games in there - Nintendo has a Rosalina bias, because they've never introduced Mario characters in games and reincorporated them in bigger roles later (or atleast not since 92) - Has a bias against Donkey Kong because the Gematsu leak doesnt have and DK characters.
I can go on, but as everyone else said, don't go to Gamefaqs for real human opinions on things. Or for an actual definition of the word "bias"
I think we're neglecting the most important part of Coro Coro planning to leak Smash Bros 4. It will have all the cotton in a large capture supplement!
Cortex should take a 12-step plan off a 10-step pierIf a pure clone is doable, I have no worries about a very large roster while adding even more clones or even bringing some old ones back. Or even free DLC with clones(not so much the last one). Also, this just makes me think Falco and Wolf are both locks again(and possibly getting Krystal for a 4th, but I'm not entirely counting on that). Also, I don't mind clones myself, since the more choices, the better, imo.
Shadow?I think there are downsides to having clones though, even if you're a fan of the character. Having them be a "lesser" character without an original moveset can be a worse insult than not being included at all. I think for a cameo game in particular it's important to make each character feel at least a bit unique and special. If they really wanted they could have 50000 characters from every frachise that are only Mario clones, but I don't think that would be fun for very many people.
That said, I'm expecting Lucina to have a different Final Smash.

Having them playable is the best thing I can hope for. So I can't see how it's an insult(or at least could not agree any less). If the characters are completely identical with no move differences(that includes any properties whatsoever), I don't mind an alt, but if they're not, their own slot makes sense.
Also, it's not like this'll cost us tons of characters, so the more the merrier. I'm still glad Chrom shows up as a small cameo, since he should appear. He's still important to Awakening, after all.
Shadow?

I'm a simple man. Lucina is cute. So is Robin. That's all I ask for, really.
That might be a bit of a letdown given my fervent support of Robin. (I did totally play the Awakening demo recently, though.) (And before that I follow Sailorleo's liveblog of the game on Tumblr.) (I'm practically a Fire Emblem: Awakening expert.)
