Oh my god, why is this still going on? We can't prove anything one way or the other so why don't we just drop it until a PotD or something reveals the truth?
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I said that I won't argue that she ISN'T a clone. She pretty obviously is. But she's a clone who is also a separate character on the roster.
Either way, I'm starting to think that she will indeed have her own slot on the roster, if only because it would be weird to have her as a character in the game but not showing up on the select screen until you scroll through Marth's colors, and then the announcer suddenly goes "LUCINA!"...? Unless they'd show both in the same icon like Brawl!Sheik, but that wouldn't really make sense either because Sheik is still the same person, while Marth and Lucina are not nearly that closely connected...
I do still think it's most likely her moveset is ... at least practically the same, if only to lessen the workload. Though they've shown enough readiness to mess with stuff by letting you edit moves and character stats that I wouldn't put it past them to make Lucina a slightly changed clone.
God, okay, no. Super Smash Bros discussions are too much for me. I'll take my leave before my Smashboards PTSD acts up.
Yes.

@Faw: Yes, we KNOW she isn't Marth with longer hair. That's kind of the point. No one is actually disagreeing with you there.

@nigelstack last page: Those were actually alternate colors like Wireframe Mac and Golfer Mario.
Lampshade Hanging: It's a lifestyle. You're right. I've gotten to the point where I'm sure I'm agreeing with someone but apparently I'm not. Time for bed.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI'm ... genuinely sorry for being so irritatingly confusing to you. Although I'm not 100% sure where the confusion stems from, which... might actually be the reason for it. I think the main problem is that there are a lot of terms thrown about with ambiguous meanings like "clone" and "character".
In any case, I didn't mean to sound like I was arguing with you! I'm mostly arguing... against the general atmosphere in here, I guess.

Okay, this argument is pointless now. There's strong evidence supporting both possibilities (and some possible explanations to counter said evidence), but not enough conclusive evidence to prove one right. And now that we're entering sarcastic links/blatantly being douchebags territory, continuing will do more harm than good.
EDIT: Apparently I'm slow, because it wasn't until hours after the trailer that I noticed the "?!" at the end of her newcomer splash. It's like even the game has no idea what she is.

What is a fandom? A miserable little pile of flame wars! 3DS FC: 0387-9377-7408 PSN ID: Raven King SageI heard that the ?! was a jab at folks who thought Chrom would get in (and that Marth being in auto-deconfirmed Lucina), since the video does initially focus on him.
So it's like, everyone expects Chrom, but wait shit it's Lucina?!
Either way, Sakurai lives under a bridge when it comes to Smash announcements.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.I'm trying to estimate how many pages a thread jumps per character. Apparently four?
Today is Fire Emblem day! And look at all them swords.
Also Captain Falcon is back! I was wondering.
Well I wasn't holding out for any of these guys, but I'll never complain about more characters...hehe, it's funny how so many characters have an alternate gender.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would staySome people are thinking Lucina is an alt for Marth?
With all due respect, if she was an alt for Marth, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't take the time and energy to give her her own character page. Plus, they'd probably say she was an alt for Marth in a Miiverse post, not for a 3-minute video.
Also, does Robin, Lucina, and Captain Falcon's inclusions make the roster for SSB 4 bigger than Brawl's?
Brawl's roster was at 39. For's currently is at 36. Only 3 off, with guaranteed more coming along the way.

They would if the character had a significant fanbase. Wireframe Mac isn't a big deal. Gender-induced swaps for Wii Fit Trainer and Villager aren't big deals. They're still the same characters. But Lucina isn't the same person as Marth, and she was a popular request. I see where you're coming from, but I also think that if she's indeed a fully separate character, they'd make some effort to differentiate her from Marth. But so far? There's none of that.
Then again her moves could have hidden different properties. Who knows. But based on what we've seen so far, she looks to fight exactly like Marth, and I can't buy the "fully separate character" argument as long as this is so.
And that's my last word on this.
Captain Falcon looks fantastic on the 3DS version.

Rinsankagujin: That's a completely different thing. I'm not saying she's a transformation of Marth, I'm saying she's a costume.
