I would not put anything past him at this point.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectSakurai sure knows how to throw people for a loop. The trailer could be bloody Mario's, and I still wouldn't feel like it was a dissapointing Monday. Nice surprise, even if he stays as a trophy.

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."He said "New Challenger". It's likely to be someone not revealed before. Low chance for a veteran, since they'd be new to Smash 4, but I'm expecting a completely new one. Shulk does still feel the most likely, for reasons previously stated, but this Trophy does make me question it a bit more. It came out of left field.
Shadow?I understand now. By blowing our brains out, he can totally soften the blow of the character reveal being disappointing because who would even be able to comprehend anything any more?
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI was gonna go to sleep, but then Rayman.
This is what Sakurai (and Ubisoft, but mostly Sakurai) did. His laugh is permeating throughout the gaming world right now...

Vote. .#Bayonetta 4 SmashFor legality, being in the game period requires licensing fees. Whether they're playable or a trophy, there's fees, so it wouldn't matter what their role is. The closest idea is that getting a Trophy of someone costs less than getting them playable, but we don't know if that would matter in the price being paid to use the character.
Anyway, it does make it appear that as long as you have history with Nintendo, you're fair game for an appearance, even if your company doesn't have a playable character. Brawl didn't make any exceptions, bot Smash 4 certainly can. Of course, if we do get an Ubisoft character, that'd be cool too. I think 4 Third Party characters is a good limit(although 5 is fine too). Whether we get Snake back, Simon Belmont, or someone else.
Shadow? So, Rayman. I actually did kinda sorta see that coming, even if it was only in the context of wanting an Assassin to represent Ubisoft in a Playstation All Stars sequel.
Is it too early for this to describe the Gematsu leaker person?

Cortex should take a 12-step plan off a 10-step pierI have to say this post
was perfect. I played that video while reading the rest of the thread.
Since Rayman didn't get a cast page on the main website, I'm pretty sure he's just a trophy, albeit a very awesome one.
I'll be at work when the 7:00am reveal happens, so I guess I'll be missing the hype train again.
note note
Are we seriously holding grudges now? Yes, Ubi's support has been poor, but this could have been worked out long before it became an issue. Sakurai isn't going to remove something now just because a company is hesitant to put their games on the system.
There's no reason to be angry about anything.
@Gavs: Well, Ray isn't playable from the looks of things, so I wouldn't go trumpeting that yet.
