R.O.B. had no characterization prior to SSE making him a tragic leader and then a tragic survivor.

I sure said that!

...Actually, now that I think about it, there being a R.O.B. game for Wii U is actually sorta kinda true because of Project Guard.

TV Tropes is the place I know that made a huge, huge deal about Pokemon The Origin representation. I seriously believe they only use anime cries just to be consistent.

I'm pretty sure the games went with a middle ground ages ago- Pokemon make appropriate animal sounds and engage in Pokémon Speak these days, simple as that.

'Sides, the F-Zero anime is the only non-game that deserves repping

I sure said that!

I'm honestly surprised anyone thought Greninja would use anything but Pokémon Speak. When you think about it, Charizard's roars, Mewtwo's grunts and speech, and Lucario's kiai and silence were all true to the anime.

The only exception as far as I know was Mewtwo in the Japanese version of Melee, but even that was - as far as I know - related to the movie.

Squirtle and Ivysaur do Pokémon Speak too, and the Pokeballs.

The Pokemon games themselves only occasionally do the Pokémon Speak thing, but Smash has always embraced it.

Yoshi has too many lines. Pikachu has softer lines than Yoshi does.

Are any of the amiibos posable? Some of them look like they have joints.

Those Marth, Fox, Samus, Peach, and Pit figures look gorgeous. I imagine they're even better looking in person.

Whoops, amiibo is deliberately lowercase. Even on Nintendo's site for them.

I think the figures that have "joint lines", like Yoshi's, only have them to make them sturdier and/or help them mimic their promo art instead of having to drastically change their pose in order to make them sturdy.

The games were on systems that couldn't replicate speech.

The Pokemon games give text speech bubbles to Pokemon that can be interacted with in the main game outside of battles. In Yellow (which doesn't count), of course, such Pokemon used Pokemon Speak. In later games, they would usually have more general roar or groan onomatopoeias, but I think the occasional debatable Pokémon Speak reference could be found in later games. Could be wrong, though.

Sometimes one Pokemon will make a purr-like sound or something, then another Pokemon in the same game and of the same species will say part of its name. It's really weird.

I'm so gunning for that Villager amiibo, even if I don't have a Wii U yet at the time.

ROB: I also really liked him, they really knocked him out of the park. It also helps that he felt like one of the few characters that were perfectly balanced.

I'll probably get Samus. Pikachu is my main, so I'll be obligated to get that as well. I'll see on everything else. I do wonder if some amiibos will end up being more valuable than others. Like, I'd expect Mario to be compatible with more games than Marth.

Considering there was a generic Mario amiibo shown during the Direct, along with the Smash!Mario amiibo, I think the Smash amiibos will only be used for Smash. Mostly because if they aren't, I think people will start assuming that the existence of the Smash amiibos would mean that each fighter will be getting another game to represent their amiibo on the Wii U.

...Although said game could just be something like another Nintendo Land...

It's also possible that Amiibos of the same character but from different games (Such as generic Mario and Smash Mario) could be interchangeable. That is to say, you could use the badass fire-creating Smash Mario Amiibo in other Mario games as if it were the generic Mario, or use the generic Mario for Smash Bros.

Yeah, they've brought up Amiibos being compatible with multiple games a number of times, so I imagine that despite having appearances based specifically on their Smash artwork, these figures will still work with non-Smash games.

While ones like Samus and Marth do look cool, I feel like Mario will probably end up being the best investment, since he's likely to end up with far more games to connect with...

They could find other ways of integrating amiibos even if the characters aren't in that game. Playable Link and Samus in Mario Kart 8? Make it happen Nintendo!
