Don't get me wrong, I'm not a snob- I just think games stopped looking unfinished in the PS2/XBox/GCN era, long after the awkwardly-shaped fist of the first polygonal models conquered beautiful spritework.
Art direction is much more important to me than raw realism, it's just it's hard to even attempt art direction when everything is a jagged mess of triangles.

I sure said that!Just going to point something out because it's on my mind.
If a Chorus Kid character gets into the game, there is one potential gameplay mechanic that I think could make him really unique. Musical Gameplay. If part of his game plan was to hit the opponent and do moves in time with the music then that could be really cool.
and watch competitive players ban music in mixed meter or something

You know, even through technology has made graphical displays advance by leaps and bounds, I can still go back to games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Final Fantasy VIII and still find the graphics beautiful in their own way. That's probably the reason why I have never been able to understand the need for better, more realistic graphics.
