From a variety point of view, bringing Roy back is no different than bringing in Chrom, so I don't see any meaningful difference.
That said, one interesting thing is that neither Marth or Ike is advertising Awakening on the Japanese site. It could be a case where that is being saved up for Chrom. Maybe it is because Sakurai plans on showing Chrom as the last newcomer character on the starting roster in August before the Japanese release of the 3DS version.

Roy wouldn't be about variety, Roy would be about the fact that cutting existing characters is just plain wrong. When it comes to Chrom, nobody would miss a newcomer that was never there. They might be disappointed, but he wouldn't be missed from players who are used to him.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerIf Roy returns, I want him to have the same Final Smash he does in Project M. Hell, I don't care who it is, I just want someone to have a similar Final Smash.
FTR, Ike's US page ALSO points to Awakening as his "Find out more!" game. And on that note, it says something about how recent some of these characters' last games were when the only newcomers after the initial reveal to not have a Find Out More page are Mii (which is excused), and Pac-Man, and even then, Mac's Find Out More page is for a game from 5 years ago (which isn't much better than Mega Man, but I digress).
The New Age of Awesome is here! Not even the sky is the limit! As much as I can understand this sentiment, I can't agree with it. Me, I think that going "no character should ever be cut ever" is shortsighted and does more harm than good in the long run.
I think there might be another reason why the Mii Fighters cannot be used online, except with friends. Since the Miis can look like basically whomever you want, they wouldn't want players beating up on public figures or even local people online. It could get people in trouble.
I have no way of knowing this, but it's just a guess.

Pretty much yes.
Edit: Super Greninja'd.
Random thought. I wonder if SSB's American box art will have American Kirby Is Hardcore.

x8: Huh, you'd expect the Mii Fighters page to advertise Tomodachi Life... Given that it is their home stage in the 3DS version and all.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerUnless you mean making Kirby himself specifically "tougher" (gotta have them angry eyes) on said box art, which I still doubt will happen.

Will they even be in allstar mode? They'll probably just be written off as "bonus characters" a la Soul Calibur III / IV.
If All-Star is anywhere like Brawl's, all 3 will probably be fought with a random moveset. Since they're unique enough movesets and all. However, I could see you fighting one entirely with a random moveset(random B moves and the random version of it). Of course, they'd use a random Mii on your actual game copy. I'm guessing only one would be fought since many don't have more than one Mii.
Shadow?

He does in the sense that I'd be fine with him because I stand by the philosophy that no existing character should ever be cut, ever.
