I think two DK newcomers is unlikely, personally.
I'd be fine with either Dixie or Rool, though I'd prefer the latter.
As for who is more likely, I'd say they both have a good shot. Dixie has relevancy with Tropical Freeze and is the next big playable Kong after Donkey and Diddy, not to mention her hair would make for interesting moves. Rool, on the other hand, is stupidly popular in Japan despite not appearing in years and would lend himself to a more unique playstyle and moveset than Dixie, as well as add another much-needed heavyweight.
I don't know if their status as female and villain respectively affects their odds or not, but I'd assume they focus more on character significance.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! Two DK newcomers is unlikely, especially since we're not even sure we'll get one, but it's not impossible. Zelda had four newcomers in Melee. Kirby had two newcomers in Brawl. Pokemon had four newcomers in Brawl. DK is the one franchise at this point and time that both deserves two newcomers and has two perfect choices. Hopefully we'll at least get one.
For however much its worth, Retro seems to like K. Rool, too, having snuck a few references to him in Tropical Freeze- Either they chose or were forced not to use him for Returns or Tropical Freeze- Perhaps to make his comeback in the third of the Returns series a bigger surprise?
I sure said that!Speaking of K. Rool... I forget.
Have we gone over the rumor of a Chunky Kong Assist Trophy yet that may or may not be true? According to the rumor, he slams the ground and makes it rain banana bunches (which also leaves banana peels everywhere.)
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaZelda already has a villain, Vaati is as boring as hell in the game that gave him backstory, and Ghirahim is a oneshot villain. If we start getting to that point, I want Dimentio, but obviously he's not happening.
Outside the big two lizards, the plausible villains are Medusa (not happening in this installment), Bowser Jr. (Mario has a lot of competition), Black Shadow/Samurai Goroh (F-Zero needs to not be dead), Kamek (already out), and maybe Porky (unlikely). Maybe I missed a few, but that covers the obvious ones.
As of right now, actually, my entire list of newcomers I'd want is either a female, or a villain. With ONE exception:
Dixie Kong
Girahim
King K. Rool
Krystal
Midna
Paper Mario
Ridley
Toon Zelda and Tetra
Vaati
And as for veterans I want back:
Captain Falcon
Falco
Ganondorf
Meta Knight
Mewtwo
Roy
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!Anyway, who cares about this! Apparently there are characters who are still so secret even most people at the companies involved with the game aren't allowed to see them! That's not going to be Chrom or Dixie or a Chorus Kid or whoever! It's gotta be something really out there and groundbreaking!
So here's my ridiculous list of characters I hope* for, in increasing order of unlikelihood (which happens to coincide with the increasing order of how much I want them):
- Ridley!
- Quote!!
- Shantae!!!
- Furret!!!!!!
*I don't actually hope for any of them because hope is for the weak.
I'd say Chorus Kids are pretty far out there and groundbreaking. Though even if the Gematsu leak is legit I bet there's newcomers not even he is aware of.
Anyway, I don't get how Porky would work as playable, even if MOTHER being extremely unlikely to get a third rep weren't in the way. He doesn't ever fight while outside of his mech (As an ally in Earthbound he just wastes turns doing nothing useful), and I can't really see us playing as old Porky in his big fat spider mech of unknown attack methods.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I will continue to insist that Takamaru and Mach Rider were basically made for Smash, and will also posit that, if Capcom could include Phoenix Wright in a ___VS. Capcom game, Nintendo can include Ayumi Tachibana.
Porky was a great boss, and that's what he should stay as.
I'd argue a certain Masked Man is probably the best choice for a Mother villain.

I sure said that!If Dixie does make it in I could see her getting a bunch of new Prehensile Hair-themed attacks.

I'll agree that he should stay a boss, but I'll argue that "great" part. His appearance in Brawl felt sorta... forced and out of nowhere? Not to mention the fight itself was sorta awkward hitbox-wise and didn't really do his MOTHER 3 battle justice.
As for the Masked Man, he seems like the only real feasible playable MOTHER villain, but again, a three-game dead series seems unlikely to get a third playable character. Assist Trophy would be cool though.
His odds are about zilch. Unless you think playing as that giant spider mech we faced in Brawl would work as a playable character. He's too big.

FE's villains tend to at least be truly massive Tin Tyrants and much more often physically immense dragons and god-like beings. Medeus, the Black Knight, Ashnard, Ashera and Grima all seem like they'd make very cool bosses, but only that.
Striped of all context and presented solely as a fight to win, the battle with Porky in Brawl was neat and his attacks fit his character.
And yeah, I was mostly talking in theoreticals.

I sure said that!Presented solely as a fight to win, yeah, it's not bad, though I feel like showing his attacks sorta ruins the "Porky did something!" element of his original fight. It's also sorta annoying, what with his weird hit detection and that annoyingly-undodgeable laser. All of Brawl's bosses were kinda disappointing, though.
But worst of all we don't even get his glorious fight music
.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! It's kinda funny because while I was a fervent Ridley supporter at the Smash World Forums, I had to inform someone that Pokey is, in fact, too big. Assuming they wouldn't make up a completely new way for him to fight somehow, which would be extremely forced unless there's something I'm overlooking, he'd be fighting in his mech, and while a lot of characters had their sizes adjusted to fit in with the other characters (so Kirby isn't just a pixel on the screen), they are still internally consistent with the characters from their own franchise. So either you have a really tiny Porky or a really giant robot.
As far as actual battling goes, ignoring aestheic complaints such as Ridley not fighting like himself or Rayquaza being in a lake, Galleom and Tabuu are the only fights I found particularly engaging, and Ridley to a lesser extent. Petey only has two attacks, Rayquaza takes forever to kill, Porky's attacks are annoying and hard to figure out the hitboxes of, Duon feels poorly-designed, and Meta-Ridley flies further off-platform the lower his health is, which is annoying.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I do like the aesthetic of his attacks and the fight itself though, and kind of hope he (or something like him) makes a return in one of the versions of the fourth game. Maybe in the Wii U-only single player mode or something like that.
I also want his battlefield to be a proper stage, if they're going to call back old stages again this time.

That's also perfect for me. If I had to choose it'd be Dixie as she is my second favorite Nintendo character (behind Fox Mc Cloud)
