I don't recall there being major opposition to the idea either though.
As it is, we're getting Mii in three distinct styles with various customization therein. I see no problem with this, given that I've always hoped to one day have myself (sorta) in Smash.
Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!Hum, hum.
You know, my initial reaction to the Miis would've been considerably different if I'd actually seen the trailer first rather than hearing someone go "OH SHIT WE HAVE MIIS" before I realize that they're doing the stream.
Not a big fan of the concept, but ultimately they seem to be pulling it off pretty well. Besides, when I'll actually be playing it with friends, they'll find their use, and the internet will have a ball putting together screenshots of their horrifying creations in battle.
... Now that I made all these perverted observations, I feel like I might give the wrong impression when I say I think I'll like her.
I have mixed feelings about Miis. Before I felt if they were ever announced they'd be terrible, as I just don't like their design and thought they'd just use a bunch of Wii Sports inspired moves... but now I like they're putting a ton of work into making them interesting customizable characters with movesets inspired by Mario, Link, and Samus/Mega Man. Not a game seller for me, but I like the effort put into them.
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!Well, if you don't want to dig through the Stream, Kotaku
has an article showcasing the video and Sakurai talking about the Miis.
@ Baffle: That's just the Smash fandom for you. There's plenty of negativity to go around because everyone has a different idea of what the game and the roster should be like. Don't it get to you. Even if I'm unhappy with Miis, I will still buy the game and love it ^_^

Hopefully there'll be an exception for them... and I'm hoping we get to customize standard attacks, too.
I'm sorry, but it's not my fault if you're going to let one other persons opinions about the game affect your own excitement. What am I supposed to do? Just shut up and act like everything is fine and dandy? I am stating my own opinion, just like everyone else is stating theirs.
And if you guys all want to be happy about what you're seeing, all the more power to you! I'm glad you guys can get excited about this game even if I can't.
I wanted to be excited about the game, but as it stands, and as time goes on, I grow less excited. The state of the world right now outside the game doesn't exactly leave much room for me to have extra space for optimism, either.
I certainly don't hate Smash, and there's still a chance I'll get it, but right now I'm not feeling a level of excitement about that's enough for me to feel like there's any necessity for me to buy a copy of the game and a system to play it on.
And I'm sorry for getting defensive. I have a bit of a victim complex.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI'm gonna be honest, I really didn't expect the Miis, but I'm actually ok with how they seem to work.
Matter of fact, the only two characters I'm not really hyped about are Lucario and Ike, for admittedly very petty reasons: Because my best friend A)Is Better than me, and B)Favors those two. So, not the characters themselves per se, but the fact that I know I'll get curbstomped when we fight.
The Miis and Palutena look like interesting fighters. I admit I expected more lasers from Palutena, but this works too.
Ooh, Mii and Palutena. Interesting additions.
Uh Baffled, I don't exactly understand the Mii hate myself, but uh, try not to blow up like that again. It's just the internet mate, you can step away from the computer.

You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!Seriously, that's my Mii. The only difference is that mine has glasses.
Which sounds sort of like a mix of both 3 distinct characters AND clones mixed together.
I can't say I'm getting any more thrilled about the Mii setup the more I hear about them.
I understand entirely.
Appology accepted. I'm glad we were able to get cooler heads coming out on top and avoid this actually breaking out into some kind of flame war.

Nintendo obviously stole your likeliness without your permission. You should file a lawsuit.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!If there's nothing cloneish about them at all, then that makes them three distinct, unique characters, even if they are, in fact, occupying the same character slot.
Maybe you get the mix-and-match option, but it's three characters worth of movesets right there.

Now that I'm properly calmed down... yeah, that's exactly it. I was excited about this, but just like a lot of other things, someone shows up to say how much it sucks. It happens over and over again. And now I can't really feel excited anymore.
