Toon Link's trophy says he lived on Outset Island, that a Bird captured his little sister, and that he got his green clothes on his 12th birthday. He is WW Link without a doubt, taking nothing from Minish Cap or Four Swords.

I guess I'll just say that I never bothered to note the Pokemon in the Charizard/Greninja trailer, so I'll be moderately surprised at what's included. And I'm happy with today's pic showing a favorite of mine.

On a side note, it was probably mentioned before I came back to this thread, but was there a reason given for the main site's daily pic no longer linking to Miiverse anymore?

Minish Cap and Four Swords do not use the same art style. That's from A Link to the Past's remake, which is similar but not the same as the Toon style. That's why they're not listed on Brawl's trophy either.

And Conductor Link is specifically part of the Toon style(unlike MC/FS) and amazingly is absent while Toon Link is on the field. CL also has a very poor model, to the point that telling them apart is extremely easy. He has no reason to remove CL barring they're treated as the same character(or a CL costume, but if Toon Link has that costume, he's obviously treating them as the same character too, since let's remember their body shapes are exactly the same. One's just his ascendant.)

Likewise, the term "Toon" is an art type. It's sure as hell not about his age. It doesn't make sense to say it that way. He should've said WW Link if he strictly meant that character, yet he uses the word for an art style. It's always been about the character's overall style. And every single Playable Character trophy with a proper name talks about their exploits(hence Pokemon Trainer being a stand out, since it only mentions what the class does, not the character whose art he is obviously based upon).

I actually went back to look at some pictures after Smash Direct about Spirit Train, and I noticed Mr. "Leave it to me" also appears if (Adult) Link appears in the stage. So that is something to consider.

Four Swords Adventure then, fine. Point is, there were other Links in the toon style, but Brawl Toon Link is not a composite character of them. He is WW/PH Link only, just like Ike is only Ike, not Fire Emblem protagonist number 3.

As for Conductor Link, I thought you were the one that said we can't make any assumptions. I don't recall TL and CL being called the same Link. For all we know Alfonzo appears because they're visually similar, not because they're the same character.

Doubtful. They never showed the full picture of Link and Conductor Link for some reason(or of the full stage when regular Link is there. Kind of odd that). That and it's actually confirmed that when Toon Link is present, Conductor Link is replaced by Alfonzo. It's theoretically possible that regular Link appearing could do the same thing, but not confirmed at this point.

Possible, but I think he's only switching out the Toon-based Links because of the art style and/or a costume. Which makes logical sense since they do look alike overall(despite the clothing differences). Actually, I do wonder if we're getting more great costumes for Toon Link. Did he have his outset outfit in Brawl? I forget. Adding that and the CL costume would be perfect.

[up] Ike's a composite of both games, and he's now got the art of a different game, and has a move he can't use too. Since when did he have Eruption? I thought that was(well obviously based upon) just a remake of Flare Blade. Was that even in the original game?

Also, Link in 4 is a composite of more than one art style. Besides, since when can TP Link do an upthrust(that's sure as hell not from anyone but one specific Link. So can Toon Link too. So now he hasn't taken notes from a different Link?)? It's not canon, and they all are composites of multiple games(provided they have multiple games) or are given non-canon stuff. I stand adamantly that the exact reason is they're the same character(due to the art style). CL and Toon Link being visually similar is not even that true(bar a CL costume). They're actually pretty different beyond the body shape. One's severely low polygon count makes them too easy to tell apart period. Doesn't make much sense at all. Yes, I am making an assumption, that's obvious. But I fail to see a legitimate reason that debunks my theory anyway.

Our best bet is probably to wait until we can see Toon Link's trophy and see if it points out the distinction. Conductor Link might even get his own trophy, too. Who knows?

[up]Pajamas Toon Link wasn't a costume in Brawl, but it was a trophy. (EDIT) Notably, it didn't refer to him as "Toon Link," (the trophy is Outset Link) but it's likely that was just to keep hush-hush about his status as a playable character.

not confirmed

I dunno. This looks pretty confirmed to me. I think they decided to change it later in development.

Ah, well then.

Sakurai is serious about not having a background character(on a stage) in at the same time as someone he views as "the same character" in some way as playable.

...I would laugh if he suddenly made Charizard available as a Poke Ball Pokemon again barring Charizard didn't show up. tongue Sadly, this new information says "nah" as an idea. Unless no Pokemon are there. Keep in mind he was first a Poke Ball, which is why the idea has any merit.

That said, I think any previous Pokemon that won't be playable should at least get a Poke Ball status, since at that point, they still add to the gameplay proper. It's less of a downgrade than a Trophy, at least.

The animation resembles the one for the spell Bolganone, at least, and Ike is also known as "the Hero of the Blue Flames".

It's new, but it's appropriate to the character- No one complains about Captain Falcon's moveset.

[up][up] That wasn't my point. It's pretty much Roy's move combined with another move. It's a composite move. The other point was that he clearly gives people non-canon stuff anyway. So to think they're exactly from a game is silly. With them getting moves that don't exist in any game(Thunder Jolt is a blatant example, regardless of whether you think the near identical move from the anime or the card only having the mistranslation of Thunder Bolt is its origin, it's not from the games at all).

Or Toon Link and TP Link using the Upthrust. Also, Toon Link doesn't have a Downthrust, FS Link does though.

[up][up][up] Interesting... I want to see a properly translated Japanese post. That could be the translator being silly again.

Or as Sterok stated, it might have been that he accidentally forgot that or never noticed that Meloetta was in the clip. Then again, you figure some one would have a memo with the list of Pokémon in the clip just in case.

Again, depends the Japanese Miiverse post. Sakurai himself should have that memorized. Although him forgetting is possible, so is him lying(remember ZSS?). As a joke or otherwise.

I wouldn't expect the Translator to have that memorized. It's interesting to point out, and while I can understand Sakurai forgetting due to a lot of pressure, it overall does not actually make him look good in the eyes of the public. I don't think it's a big deal, but I do expect people to take that out of control at this point. Did he lie or forget? Unfortunately, we don't really know. And this isn't as an insult to the man, because honestly, he can say what he wants, and lie to us if he wants.(again, joke or otherwise) Maybe he did that to try and make people analyze his statements more. Or it really was forgetful. Fun to speculate, though.

It's seems to be the same. He refers to the trailer as a "movie". However, the wording implies Meloetta didn't show off its attack during the trailer/movie. That's actually an easy mistake to make.

"One piece today. In fact, all of the Pokemon that appear at the beginning of the war movie of Gekkouga appeared several new to the "Smash Bros." in some way! This did not come out in the movie, Meroetta. Attack of voice because the terrain reflection, particularly effective in confined spaces." From Google Translate. Trailer and Movie are clearly the same words. However, while it could refer to the attack, Meloetta has no gender, so "This" could be referring to the character as well. Anybody know what it might say? He's the original text.

"きょうの一枚。 じつは、ゲッコウガの参戦ムービーの冒頭に登場するポケモンはすべて、なんらかの形で新作『スマブラ』に出演しています! これはそのムービーに出ていなかった、メロエッタ。 声の攻撃が地形反射するので、閉所ではとくに効果的。"

I think Darkrai as a Pokéball Pokémon could pretty much put all the opponents to sleep in a similar vein to Peach's FS. Though that would probably mean Peach will have a different FS in this game.

I feel like Darkrai would make the screen go black for a few seconds. Similar to one of Togepi's actions.

Darkrai's motif is about sleep and nightmares though, so I think they would do something related to it. It's probably going to be an attack that puts the opponents to sleep and do damage until they wake up now that I think about it.
