Yeah, it's to round out the starter typings.
I, personally, am neutral on Sceptile. I'll only take him if he's really low tier. :P
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI don't care for sceptile. Considering how pimp treeko and Grovyle are he just seems a step down. Personally I'd prefer...almost any grass starter, honestly. Torterra would be neat since he's on all 4's and there aren't many fighters like that. Assuming Charizard is heavy and Greninja is light, Meganium would be a fun middle ground.
nyo ho hoThere won't be another Pokémon Trainer, I don't think. All characters who used to change forms won't anymore, and I think Pokémon Trainer technically falls under that category (although he tag-teams instead of changing forms, it's the same kind of mechanic.)
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaUnless they make it so that the Pokemon Trainer can fight alongside his/her pokemon, I don't think we'll see him/her as a playable character.
Also, have E3 newcomer
and veteran
reveal polls.
The only way PT has a decent chance if he/she can use the various items for attacks, at this point. And there's a lot of items to make a moveset off of.
That said, I don't expect a return.
And nah, Mega Evolution for Sceptile isn't a blatant "will be" Final Smash. It could be one, but not some guaranteed thing. If he's in, he'll likely be his regular form, but there's no way to tell what his Final Smash would be. If Mewtwo returns, I don't expect a Mega Evolution either, but it's on the table as a possibility. Psystrike is another realistic option.
Shadow? But Kirby can switch between dozen of transformations in K 3 D, each with different models and movesets.

It's not a change without merit, at least. A lot of people would stick to one form or the other, and usually dislike changing forms. Probably because of how long it takes to switch (Zelda/Sheik), or how it's forced (Zero Suit/Samus and Pokémon Trainer).

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaHonestly, I'd rather have Grovyle over Sceptile because design and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon.
And on Rising music, I really hope at least one shows up if Snake comes back. Also, obligatory picture of Grey Fox/Raiden assist trophies next to Shiek and Greninja.
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."

Apparently Sceptile just got a Mega Evolution
Watch people speculate about whether or not this increases his chance of being in.
