Really? FE not being represented in the 64 version is no different from Ice Climbers, Game and Watch or Kid Icarus not being represented. Back then the series was in diapers, so they only went with the most well-established franchises. In the case of Melee, two characters and a song is still more than what Ice Climbers and Game and Watch got. And that "generic unidentified stage" comes in three successive forms, which no other stage besides Wario's does, so it's not like they didn't put effort on it.
EDIT: Also, "not being a fan" isn't the same as disliking. The only heavily represented franchises are Mario, Zelda and Pokémon, having the most characters and unlockables.

135 -> 180 -> 273 -> 191 -> 188 -> 230 -> 300 -> 311It's not really the same as Ice Climber or Kid Icarus. There were already four FE games when Smash Bros 64 was released, with a fifth being released later that year. That's more than Star Fox, F-Zero, or Mother had at the time. And I never said Castle Siege didn't have work put into it, but there's also not much particularly "Fire Emblem" about it, compared to a lot of other series that get a number of references, both subtle and obvious, in their stages.
And I also never said that Sakurai disliked Fire Emblem.
Welcome to th:|One: That looks like it would be extremely difficult.
Two: How many Nintendo games are actually IN first person? The only one I can think of is Metroid Prime.
What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?I think that video was just for fun
Anyway, this does remind me of that third person games rarely make sense when you think about what the character would see from their perspective. And not just because everyone has ability to see behind themselves while facing forward :P

Actually, for some reason, it took Nintendo a while to use anyone from the DKC trilogy, besides DK himself, in any of their games.
Wasn't Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour the first spin-off/crossover game to include a second DK character (not counting Jr. being in the N64 version or Tennis)

And they still haven't used any of the Wario Ware characters in the Mario spinoffs...although one of the Mario Kart arcade games did have a Diamond City course.

Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987I have a quick question, although I might be over-speculating.
As seen in the My Music part of the Direct, one of the available songs for Skyloft is Ballad of the Goddess. Not just the rock remix heard later in the Direct, but also the original version of the song... as heard briefly during Fi's Trophy Quiz.
From this, do you guys think Id~Purpose, The Return of Palutena, and VS. Ridley will also appear in their original intact forms?
I mean, it's kind of obvious that VS. Ridley will. I have my fingers crossed for Id~Purpose, at least.

I've always kinda had the feeling that Sakurai's just not particularly a fan of Fire Emblem. Despite being one of Nintendo's most long-running series, it's been pretty slow to get much overall representation, what with being completely absent from Smash 64, and Melee having only Marth, Roy (who seems like he was added for the sake of advertisement), and one song. And then when it got a stage in Brawl, it was just a generic unidentified castle.
That it seems the Wii U stage for FE is basically a generic variation on the Arena Ferox stage (right down to seemingly having the same gimmick of variable platforms rising out of the ground) kinda supports that sense I have. I might be wrong, of course...
