There actually was a "leak" of Oak being the new poke trainer in For. a few months ago.
Technically, the Tactician could be another swordie, since he/she wields swords and magic tomes, but at least he/she'd be an entirely different type of sword-user than the others, perhaps one that focuses primarily on magic and only uses the sword for standard "A-button" attacks. (Bonus points if the sword is a Levin Sword.)
I'd definitely love to see the Tactician be a playable character, though. It'd be especially cool if there was a way for those who have Awakening to import their own Tactician character models into the game, just for an additional touch.

There is still the matter of unlockable characters to deal with, though I hope that a FE character would be revealed at E3. With Marth and Ike being confirmed at this point, it seems absolutely perfect.
Pac-Man would be legendary at E3. Maybe they can reveal the rest of the starting veterans.
And of course, there is the matter of finally dealing with this whole Ridley issue once and for all so we can find out what Ridley's full role entails in Smash 4.
Palutena would also make sense as a reveal pre-release as she has been so teased for so long.

Everyone says Mewtwo will make the roster flooded with pokémon. But look at Project M. It has seven different character slots for pokémon, and... Having too much pokémon representation is the only complaint people don't make about Project M.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerKrystal isn't happening. Star Fox is already bloated enough. I support Tactician, but I doubt it'll happen. Now for franchises I missed.
Third Parties: No.
Animal Crossing: No.
Punch-Out: Not happening.
F-Zero: Black Shadow is possible, but very unlikely.
Wii Fit: Do Miis count?
Now for other franchises.
Xenoblade: Shulk has a decent shot and is popular. Don't see anyone else appearing.
Golden Sun: See
for Issac, but they might be mutually exclusive.
Pushmo: Mallo is very unlikely, but still possible.
Dillon's Rolling Western: Already out.
Wonderful 101: Already out.
Advance Wars: Don't see it happening.
Rhythm Heaven: Even ignoring Gematsu, there's a chance we could get someone else.
Brain Age: No.
Nintendog: Dog is out, and we're not getting cat.
Takamaru: Decent shot. Most likely retro rep.
Panel de Pon: Unlikely, but has a theoretical chance.
Duck Hunt: No.
Style Savvy: No.
Custom Robo: Possible.
Sin & Punishment: Saki is already out, so no.
Bayonetta: Not happening.
Professor Layton: Good shot, if he were Nintendo. Most likely third party after Pac-Man.
Yūyūki: Everyone is asking for Goku, but I suspect this isn't what people are looking for.
Rusty Slugger: Not happening.
Reggie: No.
I think that about sums up most of the major franchises and characters, though I probably missed something.
Isa and Kachi are the player characters of the sequel: Star Successor. Isa's Saki and Airan's son (full name: Isa Jo), and Kachi is some alien woman he's protecting from the planetary defense group he used to work for.
They basically play a lot like Saki and Airan before them, and have a sort of tag-in mechanic and jetpacks.
I have a message from another time...Yeah...
My avatar just reminded me of an idea I had in the past.
Cave Story. Now, Cave Story started as a decently popular indie game for free download, but eventually got several remakes, all (but one) on Nintendo consoles. The most notable are the Wiiware version and the 3DS version. I feel like Quote (the protagonist) could make for an interesting character with his variety of weapons. Or maybe can be a dual character with Curly.
