Backups are your friend in the case of memory cards, though i don't think i have my backup anymore actually. I still did in 2009 when my longest-serving Game Cube memory card fried, via a USB memory card i had bought to help me hack Phantasy Star Online Episode III, so i was able to recovery everything up to late 2005 when i had made the backup.
-random anecdote for the day.
I was actually wondering if anything from Nintendoland would make an appearance. There are some neat visual ideas that would make for a great stage. I don't know how long ago Sakurai would have finalized his stage choices though.
Assist Trophy Monita would force opponents to watch a tutorial, immobilizing them long enough for you to sneak a hit.
Yeah, with stages, you probably already have most of the assets from other games. It does tend to explain why levels like Skyloft look noticeably less detailed than say, Garden of Hope.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI also like the various weapons and attacks he has in his boss fights. Though I'm mostly partial to his multi-function blunderbuss from DKC 2. And I suppose I just find him (and the rest of the Kremlings) charmingly funny, as enemies go.
I have a message from another time...Any notable villain will do too.
Let's be honest, we have more anti-heroes/anti-villains and heroes than straight villains. Bowser and Ganondorf still count as villains. Mewtwo, even going by its first movie personality, was not actually evil or much counts as a villain. He's just an antagonist at best who has a heart.(Bowser has proven to be definitely a villain, but never made a permanent turn to the good side in any official media) Ganondorf never stopped being evil. Wolf is an anti-villain instead, so barely counts. King Dedede and Meta Knight are now heroes, so... yeah. They come close, but not close enough.
...And that's all we have. So seeing some more direct villains like K. Rool and Ridley alone would help. Even if the latter is unlikely, the former could easily be done over Dixie. Medusa is another one that would be great, but it's kind of clear by now that Sakurai is completely focused on Palutena instead(so I'd be surprised if she wasn't playable over Medusa, who should at least be an Assist Trophy). I can't think of a decent villain for the other repped series though, that could easily work. So our options are somewhat limited right now.

Yeah, but as villains go he's actually not that memorable on his own.
Bowser is basically THE original Video Game Villain; Dedede, Ganondorf, both of them are pretty well known as amazingly intricate villains in their own right.
Wolf has his own Meme.
K. Rool? He fights a bunch of monkeys on a pirate ship. Not... much you can get out of that.

I thought the original video game villain was the other paddle.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stayYou know what would be really amazing? if Hades from Kid Icarus Uprising replaced Resetti as an Assist Trophy and taunted the trainers while they were battling. He'd probably be in his Holographic God form in the Background, though.
@Bad Wolf: Did he say he was the original Donkey Kong or that the character existed? That's a world of difference. He kind of breaks the fourth wall these days, which determines it. What I mean, is acknowledging the idea isn't the same as having it be the official story and all.
That said, let's say Cranky is considered it, especially for the purposes of Smash; We already saw him once in the 75m stage by that. The other is that Giant DK is obviously based upon the original Donkey Kong from the first game. In a sense, you could say he's there. But getting to that for a moment, maybe Cranky Kong's Final Smash could be him turning into his Arcade version as is. As for what attacks, unsure. He could act akin to Giant DK with increased power and range(and weight), or throw tons of barrels and have a unique taunt. Who knows.
Shadow?

Do you guys think Nintendo Land will get some sort of representation here? I mean, it'd only make sense to cross the crossovers. Maybe a Nintendo Land stage with Theme Park Versions of different series' settings, or a Monita assist trophy.

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."
