I would pay any amount of money if K. Rool were to get in as Kaptain K. Rool
◊.
As someone who doesn't care for Donkey Kong, I think Dixie and K. Rool are the two of the four characters that deserve to get in most. Both important pieces of a very large part of Nintendo, and they each have their own credentials. If we could only get one, I'd take K. Rool though. More villains is always nice.
Preempting the cries that Dixie could easily get an entirely unique moveset based on hair-spinning and whatnot, yes. Anything can be given a unique moveset.
I see it more as a question of flavor. DK has an inexplicable sort of personality to him that makes him pretty cool to have around. Diddy, outside of those cutscenes, doesn't bring that much to the table in my eyes (though I understand that he's pretty much obligatory). Dixie would be another chimp, hair-spinning or not.
(And yeah, I'm not particularly keen on the Space Animals and Blue-Haired Swordsmen, either.)
@K.Rool: Looking at the Captain, I guess I could get behind a playable Rool if they really make the most of his potential. He seems like a ridiculous cartoon character, almost like a less pathetic Wile E. Coyote, so if they play their cards well, he could be very fun after all.

Sooo, do you know anything about K. Rool, or did you take a cursory glance at a picture of him and decide his "charm" based on that?
And I'm not sure why you're surprised that the series has an active fanbase, considering there have been two Donkey Kong Country games released just recently.

Oh, this is what I meant as well. Sorry if I wasn't very clear either.
There are games that came out after the Donkey Kong Country games, you know. Donkey Kong 64 and the two recent Donkey Kong Country Returns being the most notable examples.
Lazy design? I could use the same argument and say that DK's just a gorilla with a tie. Either way, he's definitly important enough to deserve a slot in the roster. I don't see how K. Rool is a Bowser knock-off, he definitely has enough potential to have a completely unique moveset. But his last mainstream appearance is in Donkey Kong 64, so even if I'd like another playable villain, Dixie is more revelant.

I admit, I don't understand either, even though he's one of my favorite characters.
Wouldn't be shocked if he was cut. As you said, maybe Sakurai was just looking for a playable villain (even though he's more of an anti-hero in later Star Fox games), but then, he could have just picked K. Rool.

I wanted to choose a quote, but there was so many I couldn't choose.I edited my previous post a little. Relevant to the subject.
I assumed the recent titles were mostly part of the recent movement to give nostalgic gamers some new stuff to play, but I didn't expect much to come of it in terms of actually furthering some sort of canon? Though given what Uprising did for Kid Icarus, I should probably not have been so dismissive. Aaand I admit I'm not particularly familiar with the series. My opinion of K.Rool is largely based on my impression of him as a kid, which was that they just picked a different sort of reptile for their enemy race and made their boss a fat king because that's what Mario did. And as far as I'm concerned, the games didn't have much of a plot, so I'm not sure where he might get more depth than that.
I don't know, what is there to him? Even the games don't seem to know, what with how he keeps appearing as something different. Or is that what makes the character unique and interesting? That he's a versatile cartoon character who keeps dressing up as something different for his dastardly schemes? I mean, I could respect that, but all I ever heard so far is so vague, like "I like him" and "he could be unique" and "he's important" and "not a knock-off" with no reasoning given. Questioning the appeal of a beloved character always results in defensive arguments, but I literally want to know what the fuss is about. Tell me what these characters mean to you!
But, yeah, DK is just a gorilla in a tie. I wish all this stuff wasn't so subjective, because all I can say is that somehow it works for him? Might be because of the particular combination of features, or maybe it's just my mind saying that he's right like that because he's always been there. *shrugs*
Well, you didn't, but you said you saw him as a Bowser knock-off, which kind of implied for me that he wouldn't really be much different from Bowser to play, especially since we're talking about why he'd be interesting to put as a playable character in Smash Bros. Sorry if I misunderstood what you wanted to say.
I wanted to choose a quote, but there was so many I couldn't choose.I figured it was because of Sakurai's (muted) favoritism towards Star Fox. He seems to a certain bias towards other franchises, particularly the ones he's developed.
But IIRC, Wolf was a last-minute addition to the roster, so maybe that's not the case.
Wolf was nowhere near a "last-minute addition" to the roster itself(you're confusing finishing him later on with clearly going to be in the game. Two different things), nor was it ever said or even implied that was the case.
The roster was finalized well before Sonic came along(Sakurai's own words). He was programmed in a bit later, but he was always planned according to the actual information we have.
He was possibly never planned for the SSE itself, but that's literally it. Just like a set of others.
Everybody that got in(except Sonic) were meant to be in from the start. At least, realistically from what we can tell. The order of who was put in doesn't even change this, as long as they were planned all along(which is apparently the case).

Shadow?Wolf is in to make sure Fox can't do that.
Regarding Dixie vs. Rool, both are valid. Dixie has more relevance, while Rool has a huge following (He's the #1 requested character in Japan). I would prefer Rool, but either would make me happy.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'd be happy if both Dixie and K. Rool were unlockable in SSB 4
The only other character I'd want would be Krystal, because give her her staff from Adventures, she could play differently from Fox/Falco/Wolf.
I'd like to see Paper Mario get in, because he has a different moveset than standard Mario so he could be different .
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!
Thank you. I appreciate it.
I'm gonna go ahead and see if the good old rice trick works...

Diddy makes plenty of sense as an inclusion- He's Donkey Kong's Luigi, and has been ever since the first DKC. On top of that, he's drastically different from DK himself in terms of the things he can do.
Dixie, on the other hand, is very similar to Diddy in build and skills, so I don't really see the appeal of adding her to Smash- And this is coming from a DKC fan.
I sure said that!
