No, not really. That assumes two things; That Boss Mode is in both games(it'd make more sense in the Wii U version as is due to more space to easily make such a mode, and the characters don't count as "playable fighters" in the same sense, since it's a special mode. So no Classic Mode, etc. for 'em). The other is that the bosses aren't tied to a stage either. At least not what any of us referred to when we talked about the mode.)
Things like Duon, Giga Bowser, or even Ridley could work in any stage as long as it was big enough. Maybe it could be in Final Destination Mode instead to guarantee they'll work fine, but that's not even necessary. Only few courses wouldn't work, and it depends which boss too. Giga Bowser works just about everywhere since he has the exact same properties of regular playable fighters, as do the various Fighting Teams(Polygons/Wire Frames/Alloys). They're even in the specific Fighter data in Brawl, while the regular Bosses have Boss data.
On the other hand, they could have their own special courses instead, like Brawl's SSE did. Well, save Giga Bowser for the fact he works everywhere. Master Hand and Crazy Hand could easily work on any FD Mode by design too. The options are pretty unlimited at this point.

It already got answered actually, at least for the Characters part:
Kotaku: I know that you can't talk too much about the characters that will be in the next game, but for previous Smash Bros. games, have there ever been characters that you wanted to include but couldn't figure out a good mechanic for them, like a way to fit them into the game?
Sakurai: Yeah, there's been a lot of instances like that. For example, there are places where we planned to have a character but then implementing that character just didn't work out. Or we wanted to implement some character but there was too much overlap with other characters from the same title, and it didn't work out. Or there's places when I wanted to implement some character, but the image for how it works in the game just never comes to fruition.
And I support Dixie Kong as a playable character. It seems weird to me that we got three Star Fox characters, and only two Donkey Kong and Fire Emblem characters in Brawl. She's by far the most important character of the series besides Donkey and Diddy (and maybe Cranky), and unlike K. Rool, she's still revelant.

I wanted to choose a quote, but there was so many I couldn't choose. To be clear, Dixie wasn't in Brawl because she couldn't be properly teamed up with Diddy. Programming problems, and all. He didn't much specify the details, besides "using a button to switch to the other in some way". So it was likely to have a similar concept to Zelda/Sheik in Melee/Brawl. She could still be in 4, but as a standalone only.

Shadow? The monster in the Find Mii stage for 3DS looks like it might be a boss, since it appears on the same plane as the playable characters...but it could just be an Ultimate Chimera-esque hazard, if it turns out there aren't bosses in the 3DS version.

Welcome to th:|![]()
Considering they're separating Zelda/Sheik and the Pokemon Trainer team, it doesn't sound unlikely to me that she could be added as a standalone character.
Where did you get this information from? I remember that Dixie was found in Brawl files, but I don't remember Sakurai talking about this whole "she was planned to be teamed up with Diddy" thing.
I wanted to choose a quote, but there was so many I couldn't choose.I can't honestly remember the original article. But he admitted that himself.
He never spoke of any of the other Forbidden 7 at all.
I'm looking for the article, though. I know Smashboards found it too. It's been a very long time, but it might've been one of his various e-mail stuff. Where he talks about an e-mail and answers questions.
...Well, it was a Famitsu article. http://smashboards.com/threads/diddy-dixie-what-could-have-been.144627/
No good information. Like which issue, etc. Well, if we can ever find better information, it'd be nice, or at least complete information.

Shadow?Too bad. But thanks for searching.
I think that Dixie is the only one from the Forbidden Seven to still have a chance. Toon Zelda and Toon Sheik seem redundant, especially since Toon Sheik doesn't even canonically exist, there's probably more original and ineresting Pokemons to be add than Plusle & Minun, like Sceptile for starters if they want a Gen III Pokemon, and the others were probably just there for beta testing.
I wanted to choose a quote, but there was so many I couldn't choose.Plusle & Minun are more speculation than anything. Pra_Mai could also mean Every Player or other translations. So it's hard to say.
That said, don't forget Mewtwo. It has a good chance of coming back, as Sakurai even said they acknowledged the want for it. He considered him this time, not that it guarantees anything, but eh.
Shadow?Do you guys think we should exchange NNIDs now and add each other to our Friend Lists in preparation for our Smash Bros. U tournament?

Thanks, I'll look up when I'll have more free time.
Yeah, I forgot that Plusle & Minun were just speculation, I don't think Sakurai seriously considered them. And you're right, I did forget about Mewtwo. He probably didn't get in Brawl because of time constraints, or just because Sakurai thought that seven Pokemon characters was overdoing it. At least, it would end the Flame Wars.

Yes, I think it's a little early for that. But I'd be ready for a Mario Kart 8 tournament.
If it was, I'd just be more annoyed. I wanted a 3rd Gen Pokemon over a 4th Gen. That said, if not, no big deal. Either way, it was in the Fighter data and we have a Random Button in a separate section of the data, so it's unlikely. We're not talking about icons on the screen, but literal fighter data.
Anyway, what's done is done. Or not done, if you will. I would've preferred something like Gardevoir or Deoxys instead. Of course, Sceptile is another good choice. As for having 7 Pokemon, he'd have 5 spots on the character screen itself, so it wouldn't look nearly as bad. He did cut a Mario character too in Brawl.(and possibly intended to return Dr. Mario, but we only can for sure tell on Mewtwo and Roy since they have enough character data to show they were definitely worked on)
I do hope we get some more "non-safe" stuff. Palutena and Chrom are kind of obvious by this point, and while they aren't bad additions by any means, won't generate the same amount of hype of someone like Ridley or a DK character. Or even another Mario character. Safe options aren't bad, but they aren't easy to generate hype with.

Lucario was obviously chosen over a 3rd Gen Pokemon because of his popularity, and because the 4th Gen was the last Gen at the time (and it's the same case with Greninja, except he doesn't have his own movie). And we'd already have Mewtwo as a popular Psychic-type Pokemon, so I think a Grass-type Pokemon would add more variety. Of course, we had Ivysaur, but it'd be nice to have more non-Gen I playable Pokemons. Indeed, Gen I Pokemons are the most iconic ones, but there's still five other Gens that deserve representation, though we do already have Lucario and Greninja.
Sure we'd have five spots on the character screen itself, but I'd still count as seven Pokemon characters. Of course, since I think Squirtle and Ivysaur have good chances of not coming back, unlike at least Jigglypuff, it wouldn't be that much more than in Brawl.
As a safe option that would easily generate hype, we obviously had Megaman, and the other one I can think of that you haven't mentionned is Pacman, though I doubt he'd generate as much hype as Megaman, since he's never been as requested, though he's definitely a lot more well-known than him, at least to the general public. As another Unexepected Character, I could see Takamaru, though we already have Greninja as a, well, ninja character. Or maybe he'll just add the Urban Champion.
He did was considered for Melee after all.

I wanted to choose a quote, but there was so many I couldn't choose.Oh, I wasn't questioning why Lucario was in. That's obvious and I can't really say it was a bad idea honestly. I prefer 3rd Gen well over 4th Gen, that's all.
Greninja built up some decent hype, since he didn't severely stand out over a lot of X/Y Pokemon. Not to the point of Lucario or even Mewtwo, but has some pretty high popularity. Being a full ninja helps that. Wasn't he the first bipedal Ninja Pokemon too?
Shadow?"I am genuinely curious to know why you want Dixie Kong playable."
About three reasons:
1. She's in my top 3 favorite Nintendo characters (along with Fox and Meta Knight)
2. Smash needs more female characters
3. The DK universe itself needs some more reps and Dixie is more likely than K. Rool.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!I'm more curious about the first point... I don't know, I'm suspecting more and more that there's some form of huge DK fandom going on that I just somehow never came into contact with or saw the slightest sign of except in Smash Bros threads with some occasional complaints about how DK needs more reps and stuff. I mean, I know those games for the SNES were hugely popular, but I thought it had dramatically died down since then?
I don't know, I just can't warm up to the idea. DK is a classic and he's great. Diddy, to me, is just a chimp in a t-shirt, though I'll admit that he has an entertaining personality in SSE cutscenes. His design is still just kinda lazy, though, and Dixie is that with a ponytail tacked on. I just... don't really get it. And K.Rool just seems like a Bowser-knockoff without the timeless Bowsery charm.
Buuut I guess what's timeless or not is entirely subjective and people in the DK fandom would still love these characters? I'm just surprised that an active fandom still exists (if it does), rather than just a decentralized lot of people with nostalgia for the SNES games.
