If Giga Bowser doesn't return as a Final Smash, that's one choice. Meta Ridley could show up too. Both Hands would work fine(they had programmed movesets in Melee(d-pad and buttons), and Master Hand had one in 64, with controls just like the regular fighters. Including the original use of Side B). As you said, the Brawl bosses.
And possibly any more he makes. Could even allow us to control variations similar to our own Event Mode. Like making only one guy Giant/Metal/Invisible/whatever. Or say, everybody but your guy has a Flower on their head. Whatever makes it challenging. I could imagine a permanent Metal Mario or Giant Donkey Kong as a straight boss(as well as done with this Event Mode variation).
There's a lot that could be done. It could even allow for guys he didn't want to make playable with normal controls. I know he said he didn't plan to implement the touch screen of the Tablet, but he could still make the controls unique. I think it would've been a neat idea since you could choose your attack via the touch screen. Of course, who knows if he changed his mind at all.
Shadow?Well, it might be one of the options among the customizable moves. Everybody could theoretically have at least two Final Smashes. And we've had some changed ones as is, so...
Also, it'd let people use previous ones as is. I don't mean Giga Bowser(specifically), but things like Cook Kirby over Ultra Sword.
Shadow?Well, I'm not sure Sakurai will go that far. I expect little modifications to the specials, like what we've seen in the Direct. But yeah, we could keep the previous Final Smashes that way. And I think there's potential for alternative Final Smashes for a number of characters.
Like, Link's would be Oni-Link, Charizard's would be Mega Charizard Y (though I'm not sure this would really change from the current one), Mario's would be the Special Moves from the Thousand-Year Door, Luigi's would be the Brobot, ect...
I wanted to choose a quote, but there was so many I couldn't choose.Mega Charizard Y is... to be honest, near identical to the original. It might as well be a costume with its design. Although maybe having its colors alone could work. That said, that going into X would be weird, on the other hand, canon's pretty much "irrelevant" in Smash. I think Fire Blast or Overheat would make good alternate Final Smashes for him. I think an alternate one should be effectively different from the original.
Related, I want to see the Star Fox roster to maybe determine the options for them. Other than everybody keeping their original Landmasters and gaining new vehicles options, I can't think of much. I can't see how the Arwing and Wolfen(I or II) would be much different from each other overall. Sonic's could be a lot of things. He has a sword in one game, he could possibly attack everyone and everything at once with Ancient Light doing high damage, but perhaps low knockback to make up for it(it would also make it more balanced, since AL is great at hitting everything as is). Any changed ones would have the earlier version. I can't think of a good one for Zelda herself, as Light Arrow is great alone. Sheik could use her Harp(could put them to sleep? Maybe use it summon a Temple and unleash a few monsters to attack...) as well as the Light Arrow. Link and Toon Link have a lot more options, though. Even keeping their old ones, they got tons of items, so... you might as well just list whatever comes to mind at that point.
And he hasn't much said exactly how custom moves work. We know at least specials can be customized(Final Smashes do count as specials according Sakurai's original listings. It was all 4 specials, then the regular Final Smash). So it's not impossible to think he'll count it as one again. I mean, you do press the Special Button to activate it and all, so... he could pull a technicality on that.
However, from what I've noticed, it seemed more like the customization were variants of the original moves. Albeit, I was barely able to tell, so does anybody know the exact ones shown? I think Mario had an Iceball, but that's all I can remember.
Shadow?I really don't understand how people think that customized moves gives characters completely new moves. So far they simply alter how moves work. Mario doesn't throw iceballs or something, he still throws Fireballs, albeit different. SO asking for completely new Final Smashes would be bit of a stretch.
Only sometimes postsYeah, this is why I think alternative Final Smashes are unlikely, but as you said, nothing's confirmed for now.
Mega Charizard Y would indeed most likely be repetitive, but I feel it's still better than nothing. I didn't think about Fire Blast, but it could work, better I feel than Overheat since it's the stronger move of the two (his more powerful, actually). I could see Darkspine Sonic or Excalibur Sonic for Sonic, since Hyper Sonic would be, well, redundant.

I wanted to choose a quote, but there was so many I couldn't choose. From what I gathered from the Direct about the move customizing, They only go with what you can change without needing to change the character model's animations (Mario and Pit are still shooting something, Kirby's still using his awesome lungs, DK is still slamming his head towards the ground, Marth is still stabbing in front of him <In fact, costuming and console differences aside, the only difference between that and Brawl!Marth's Shield Breaker is the fact in itself that Marth moves forward.>)

The New Age of Awesome is here! Not even the sky is the limit!I know we're two pages past this, but there is one more big event after E3 that might (keyword "might") have more Smash news: EVO. If Sakurai wants to cater a bit more to the tournament crowd this time around then what better place than the biggest tournament in the world? Melee's gonna be there anyway, so there won't be a shortage of Smash fans.
Or he could just ignore them. Always a possibility too.

I still think Nintendo's going to try to keep a few newcomers as actual secrets this time around. They were pretty good at keeping folks hush hush on Pokemon XY
A boss mode does have Ridley as a fighter, it's just a different kind of fighter(or an alternate category). Don't know where you're getting the idea he's a "stage mechanic" in a boss mode if you're outright playing as him. You either are or you're not.
Making him playable, even if only under specific conditions, is still playable. Yes, we'll get a lot more people happy as long as he's still playable in some way. It isn't as sweet(for me and some) as a regular fighter, but he'd still be a fighter overall, Mistermister. We aren't talking about having control of the stage, but controlling the character as is.
Shadow?"Are you the world's best troll or are you the ultimate troll?"
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!![]()
Although he probably wouldn't be allowed (or would simply refuse) to specify that either...
The question I would ask is probably "What exactly led to the decision to release the Wii U version later?". If only to maybe get some information on what exclusive content the Wii U version will have...Although they very well may discuss that beforehand anyways.
Welcome to th:|

That's why I said he could have changed his mind, I'm just not really hopeful.
A Boss playing mode? I guess it could work, but I feel people would bitch about Ridley not being a normal fighter. Though fans will always find a way to bitch anyway. And what other fighters would we have? Bosses from Brawl? Dr. Kawashima?
