[up][up] Ah did not notice it. Must have been too busy cheering that Zororark was there and not playable.

To be fair, Sakurai didn't actually say anything about any of the Wonders being confirmed or deconfirmed. Going off what he said in the Miiverse post, we have seven trophies for the W101 IP. A series with that many usually guarantees a playable character to represent it (then agian, we didn't get any Animal Crossing fighters in Brawl, but that was more due to Sakurai having a hard time choosing a suitable one).

Could be another case of Sakurai-Brand Trolling™ at the surface.

Okay, really, just showing the trophy for Wonder Red means nothing. Fighters get trophies, after all.

Of course, either way, Sakurai more than likely knows how fans would interpret him posting a picture of a character's trophy so he probably is trolling.

But then why show the trophy and reduce the amount of hype-laden surprise that could be harvested with a reveal trailer?

I'd lime like to note that, in the Pic of the Day he says...

Fight! The Wonderful 100!!
...either he's quoting the game, being funny, or the Wonderful Ones are an Assist.

Me being an overspeculative Smash fan, it's probably one of the former two. My fingers are crossed for them as an Assist Trophy, though.

[up][up][up]Because it seems to suggest that he specifically isn't playable, I guess, and thus would make his playable reveal even more satisfying?

...Not that I think that's particularly likely. But with multiple Wonderful 101 trophies being included, it does give me more hope for other representation in the form of an Assist Trophy and/or stage.

A reveal as a trophy seems like a pretty unceremonious way to hype up a character's possible reveal, especially if it's not a popular request. Few people expected a playable Wonder-Red (I love W101 and still didn't really want him in) and his trophy appearance doesn't seem to be deliberate misdirection of any kind. Remember the Pseudo-Palutena moment from the Direct? I think he knew that she'd be counted out if she was first revealed as a trophy, so he trolled us with the ugly clone of her. The fact that Wonder-Red is being blatantly displayed here seems more like Sakurai's way of disconfirming a character rather than teasing for a possible reveal like with Ridley.

I hope that made sense, I'm tired and my thoughts are scattered.

What is a fandom? A miserable little pile of flame wars! 3DS FC: 0387-9377-7408 PSN ID: Raven King Sage

I think, at least amongst much of the English-speaking fanbase, a character only being in as an (Assist) Trophy is taken as an insult to both the character and that fan's tastes, like they're not good enough to be playable.

It's the exact opposite though, it shows Sakurai thinks they're important. :/

You know, I've thought about how Sakurai should do a possible Ridley reveal, and it's basically this.

All takes place on several stages, however, they're fully rendered cinematics instead for the first part. It basically plays like a boss battle trailer, with Yellow Devil, first look at Master Hand and Crazy Hand, and then we cut to the Pyrosphere, where Samus battles Ridley.

But then, unexpectedly, a different winged beast comes out, and it looks like the Ridley we actually remember from before he got a training regime with Hulk Hogan.

The rest is just Ridley fighting, and the last scene is him squaring it off against Other M Ridley.

Pipe dream though. Ridley most likely isn't in.

EDIT: Beast Ganon as boss character, plox.

[up][up]Yeah, that kind of reaction to Assist Trophies seems really absurd. Would they not feel insulted if the character wasn't included at all? Or would they just be insulted so long as the character they want isn't playable, because their own personal tastes are all that matter?

Like, I love Golden Sun and really want it to get a playable character. But if it doesn't, while I'd be disappointed, I'd understand that the the series is ultimately not an absolutely crucial part of Nintendo's overall history, and thus there's no reason to think it should be guaranteed a spot.

Heck, I loved The Wonderful 101 too, I was just well aware that there was little reason for it would get a playable character in Smash Bros 4, so I didn't get my hopes up.

So we might actually be getting Sceptile after all. Huh.

If Sakurai is going full troll mode, I wouldn't be shocked if Ridley's reveal comes right after the E3 tournament.

Blaziken is the most popular of the Gen III starters, no question

No, I'm pretty certain that was Mudkip.

Mudkip had a meme, but that was it. Blaziken was the overall most popular G3 starter. It got a Mega for a reason.

I'd like Grovyle instead of Sceptile because of his design and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers.

Wait, I've figured it out! The Wonderful 101 trophies are actually a hint that Hideki Kamiya (aka Wonder Director) will be playable!

He'll be revealed at the same time alongside Reggie.

Fun coincidence. Smashboards rated Sceptile's chances yesterday. One day before ORAS's announcement.

Wonder Red and his cohorts not being an Assist Trophy does puzzle me I'll admit. You'd think they make perfect AT material.

The fact that they're apparently making multiple new models for the Wonderful Ones seems to indicate that they'll be used somewhere. Perhaps as part of a Blossom City stage?

Well, I guess that scarf looks new? It was more of a flat special effect in W101 proper.

Information about the Bullet Bill item. Also, the main site currently has a picture showing the Polar Bear and Zelda up, which is probably Smash Run. No idea how this mixup happened, but eh.

Either of these could change, despite me posting the link.
