Cassidy: Good analysis all around, and seeing as how Paul the Polar Bear is an enemy in Smash Run, I wouldn't be too worried for the Ice Climbers.

Also; Meta Knight, Wario, and Mr. Game and Watch all appeared on a whiteboard drawing from a while back, so I'm sure the three of them are guaranteed safe.

Ooh, and you missed Ike. ^u^;; I consider Ike safe, especially since Sakurai seems to be trying to preserve as many characters as he can.

Ew, no thanks on the idea of Krystal being playable. I already feel as though Star Fox has more than the amount of character reps it deserves for a franchise of its size, and to nearly give it the same amount of reps as Mario or Zelda just reeks of favoritism.

I also don't like how a good portion of her fanbase just wants her in because: "She's a girl, and a hawt one. *drools*". No offense to those who want her in beyond those reasons, but that's partially the reason why I don't like adding in female characters solely because of gender.

I want her in due to her potential for a very unique moveset (seeing as how no one in Smash uses staves).

[up][up]Agreed.

Heck, three is probably too many when DK, Metroid, and Fire Emblem only have two, and Yoshi only has one. I wouldn't want to take away either Falco or Wolf, mind you. Better to bring the other series' up than to break one down.

I can imagine that Wolf was a fairly late inclusion to pad out roster size a little, though, like Ganondorf in Melee but not a clone.

Personally, I think it makes more sense to hate the creepy side of the fandom than the character.

Hasn't the character had enough problems, having a creepy side of the fanbase to deal with?

I wish Fire Emblem would get three characters this time. I wouldn't count it out as an impossibility, but it's not entirely likely.

I'd ask for four but that's extra dreaming. At that point I would just ask Nintendo to license out the series to another company to make its own fighting game.

Yeah, as much as Fire Emblem should probably have four based on sheer volume of options, I'm content to settle for three, since the Big Three of Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon only had four slots each in Brawl. Zelda and Pokemon had more than four characters, mind you, and Mario had eight characters if you count the second column of spin-offs, but they all technically only had four slots.

[up][up]Considering the huge success of Awakening, I believe FE is almost guaranteed three slots. That's just my opinion though.

I'd love Marth, Ike/Chrom (one, not both) and Anna, but a lot of others could work (Robin, for instance...)

Oh, yeah. Forgot Wolf and Falco too, had to edit that in. Eh, I wouldn't really mind if he got cut. Cause I'd like a few more Fire Emblem reps to be added and he's not really my favorite.

As for Krystal, whatever you say about her fans, she's certainly iconic enough to be added. (really, she should've gotten in first before Falco or Wolf) And whether or not you like her, she has good moveset potential.

And really, what's wrong with wanting more female representation? Yeah, "they're hot" isn't really a good reason, but that's not really the same as that.

...Was Krystal even around when Melee (And thus, Falco joining the battle) came out?

Regardless, I don't see what makes her more iconic than Falco or Wolf.

Melee came out in 2001 and Star Fox Adventures in 2002.

So they wouldn't have known Krystal yet.

When people say "Krystal is popular with furries" (implication that that is unique somehow), I think they're reeally underestimating the percentage of gay/bisexual guys in the furry fandom (of course there are women in the fandom too, but less than the general population...)

As much as I'd like to see how Krystal would play in Smash, she does have an entire army of creeps behind her. Like... way more than any other character in here.

[up]And that is relevant... how?

Meaning, she's not actually more popular with furries than Fox. Female anthro characters aren't any more "furry bait" than male characters, really.

On Deviant Art, "Fox Mc Cloud" gets over 13k hits while "Krystal" gets over 68k, if that means anything to you, and a cursory glance confirms that a large portion of them are Krystal from Star Fox.

A number of them are also of her artistically nude.

@Enlong: Same here, but I can see why a lot would be worried about it.

@Cassidy and the others: Raw numbers have spoken! And I think we'd better put a stop to this discussion before it gets more awkward.

Anyway... regarding never-going-to-be-seen third parties, part of me wishes we could get a Metal Slug character, even if just to have this kick-ass Final Boss music in the soundtrack.

You know, this is at least the second time we've debated characters' relative amount of rule 34, and a question comes to mind: Why should we care? Why in the world should that be the deciding factor as to whether a character is worth a slot or not?

Sorry. Ninja'd by a clearer head.

Honestly, it doesn't matter. She has fans and is popular. The reasons are irrelevant. She's well known. Good enough.

Sakurai himself didn't acknowledge her till after Brawl. So who knows. I'd like her in over Falco due to her moveset(and to have more gender equality, which she also just happens to help with and is an excellent and unique choice), but I would be fine with 4 Starfox characters as well.

[up] 100% this. It's irrelevant.
