The should make Blaze the Cat the next Sonic representative. That'd give us a character who's undeniably a cat.
Alternatively, make Bat-Cat
playable.
If I may interrupt, I believe this is relevent. About half a year ago, Namco put out a poll for a new Pac-Man
◊ design to use for a mobile game, and out of all of these, D won.
So... Could that be the design they use for Smash? Or will they use something else? Or will Sakurai make something else entirely?
Now's it's Shulk Time!Yeah, no. With Mew, yeah it has feline characteristics, but its morphology is still radically different from any kind of cat.
Mewtwo isn't discernibly feline at all. It's got a long tail and fleshy ear-like horns, but other than that it's basically a bizarre unidentifiable mutant.
There's no reason to call either of them cats when the resemblance is only vague. There's plenty of Pokemon actually referred to as cats in canon, call them cats. Mew/two are not and never have been.
And so is every Pokemon. None are 100% identical to cats in any way. They've all got differences from any real life species a specific one is based upon.
I will stand by what I said, Mew is definitely cat-based, and Mewtwo follows, just to a slightly lesser degree. Also, the argument doesn't really even make sense. He's slightly less similar to the other Cat Pokemon(who are of course more similar to a specific Cat species they're based upon), so he's barely cat-like at all? Despite having a cat-based name, and feline characteristics? It doesn't really add up whatsoever. Mewtwo still has feline characteristics. He's just a Mutant Cat at this point, respectively. Which more or less fits many of his name meanings as is. Mew(sound a cat makes, can partially be mutant), and well, two(a clone, which also fits the mutant part).
As for Pac-Man, I honestly don't even think he has a decent chance of being playable. There's little uniqueness to him at this point, and now that we've seen many of the Namco Arcade characters being some kind of item, I think he fits far better there only. There's other types of Namco characters who actually have more unique movesets(Lloyd with two swords, Nightmare has a very specific swordstyle that nobody uses. While heavy sword users exist, none are like him specifically. Same applies to Siegfried, of course. They're near identical, minus a few moves. I'd even love a Night Terror Final Smash, where while he is hardly invincible, maybe he'd have low gravity while in the air to note how he couldn't be Staged Out in his home series. In this case, it'd just improve his recovery and nothing more. I don't want another Master Hand here).

Shadow?I don't know where he said "legendary". But he has said "special situation" and that Bandai-Namco is given zero special consideration for a character as any others. That's why I put no real stock in Pac-Man. He's not severely special to any kind of Console or Handheld. He's just notable as an Arcade character, which makes him far better fit as a Special Flag summoning where he sticks to his roots than anything else.
http://www.nintendo-insider.com/2013/06/17/sakurai-many-third-party-characters-in-super-smash-bros-unlikely/
also explains it. Bandai-Namco having a lot of items is so far the only thing they've directly being given consideration for at all, but I think that's solely because they're working on the game, and nothing more. I don't expect them to have a character in the first place, but it would be nice.
~sigh~ Well that's your opinion Irene. And you're free to think that. (I don't really care about whether they're cats...)
But honestly, arguing with you is a bit like arguing with a wall, no matter the subject. :/
You could honestly lighten up a bit...

I still think a Soul Series character would be a better Namco rep. You know, to return the favor with Link.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI'd prefer a Dark Souls character.
Gaping Dragon for Smash 4, please.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."I like the ghosts in A and the Pac Man in C. I'm surprised that D won. Not a fan of that one myself.

...Mewtwo's a cat. Just saying.
As for Greninja, yeah, it didn't really stand out nearly as much as the other 2 Starters overall, but it was popular for a Kalos Trainer setup compared to the other two.
Shadow?
