I noticed that Japanese fans are really fond of going "oh, X just got in because they are popular with foreigners".
While that was probably true for Little Mac (most of the translated comments I've seen there had folks openly admitting they had no clue what Punch Out was or who Little Mac was, so the game probably doesn't have the same level of popularity there), but compared to how we didn't expect Greninja either, yeah.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.It's funny. Here, we have people on about how Smash is most likely going to aim at Japanese players first, hence Jigglypuff and the low hopes for Metroid representation.
And over in Japan, it's apparently an accepted fact that Smash is catering to Westwrn audiences.
Nothing is different anywhere, it appears.
I have a message from another time...![]()
I for some reason thougt you were talking about Mega Man X for a second...I don't know why.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Nope! (Okay, a few people did.) The fact that he was completely out of the blue and already one of the most popular Kalos Pokémon is probably why he's so well-recieved.
Here in the West, at least. From the "he must've been requested in 'murica" comments he's getting in Japan, I'm not sure if he's well-received over there too.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaBest part is I just looked it up and apparently people have asked for Dunsparce (jokingly, but I'm pretending there's a silent movement to add it in just for the funny).
I kinda hope her Down Special is expanded, though- Maybe, after laying the first bomb, Samus will stay Morphed and can jump, lay more bombs with B and charge a Boost Ball dash with A? Down B would revert her, and maybe there'd even be a "tap B to just lay a bomb, hold B to morph and stay morphed" element?
I sure said that!Give her the bomb-scatter thing from Super and Other M. (Charge the Charge Beam, then while holding the full charge drop a Bomb- it instead scatters five bombs around you.)
And maybe let the normal Morph Ball be a crawl? Except Metroid can't crawl
Yeah, the "he's only in because foreigners like him" bit isn't as strong here as it was with, say, Little Mac.
To most of the commenters there, ol' Mac he was downright obscure.

I'm sure plenty of people requested Greninja. As part of a Kalos Trainer. I'm pretty sure most of us thought the starters would all get in together. Then Sakurai decided no more transformations. Now, they have to keep Charizard of course, and they need something from gen 6. So Delphox is out, and Chesnaught looks harder to make a moveset for. Thus, Greninja. I wouldn't be shocked if Greninja being the most popular was a coincidence.

"Bankruptdo’s final hope"
Hey! It looks like some of the Japanese know just as much about Nintendo's financial status as a lot of people in other parts of the world do!
But seriously, I do love how their reactions are pretty much exactly the same as ours. It really says a lot about the world we live in.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!
