...how did the Shiek/Greninja matchup get past me.
And I think it's pretty much confirmed that everything will be available from the start.

Not that I would complain if that were the case, but what makes you think that?
Good point. There's still the chance that they're still unlockable or they're part of a few fighters promoted to starters, though. Hard to say without the game out.

That's assuming Wolf's coming back. Which I don't think he is.
Lucario, Toon Link, Luigi.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerIf they're going to do a "rival" thing, it shouldn't be a one-to-one character deal since that kind of thing will never fit. Make it so that some characters have multiple "rivals" while some get none at all.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Kinda like how Link had Raphael as a rival, when Raphael had someone else?
I have a message from another time...
Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking.

Well, he is the least popular of the three character-wise.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerFor Rosalina, I could see the Grand Star theme as a good victory fanfare, sped up a little. For the Villager... I dunno - maybe an excerpt from the Animal Crossing theme?
Diddy should really get this melody from DKC2.
I'm surprised none of the Pokemon characters have ever used this
as a victory theme, but maybe now with the possibility of unique themes we'll get it.
For Sonic, I really hope they actually arrange his victory theme themselves this time. And maybe rearrange the original stage clear
(or the Sonic CD remix), though the use of Sonic 1/2 music is infamously iffy with rights issues so probably not.
Also, I wish they would finally use the full Kirby dance theme (as apposed to the half-long version) - it's not too long: in the old games it was only about six seconds long, which is actually shorter than Link's in Brawl, though I can also understand why they wouldn't (the victory animation to go with it, for one, would end up being the longest of any character).
At least bring the bassline back from the Smash 64 version.

Sonic got very little "remix" content since his inclusion was fairly-last minute.
Sonic's going to get plenty this time around.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. For Villager, the victory theme from Nintendo Land's "Animal Crossing: Sweet Day" attraction keeps popping into my head.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaSpeaking of Kirby victory jingles, for Dedede or Meta Knight Victory I would love it if one of them got the death jingle
as a victory theme. Same with Bowser and the Mario series death jingle.
Nah, Pit ought to be Samus' rival should they go that route. Remember, Metroid and Kid Icarus are sister series, but Metroid is clearly the more popular of the two while KI stayed in purgatory for 21 years.

Vote. .#Bayonetta 4 SmashA more minor thing, but I also hope they bring back from Melee how each character had a trophy of them from their own universe, and then one of them in the Smashverse.
It'll be a bit hard to nail with things like Mega Man, though.

Thinking on some matchups I'd expect/like to see, ignoring same-series match-ups.
Now that I think about it, this probably wouldn't work so well in Classic Mode, with the Secret Characters and all that
