Look at it this way: He could have simply done nothing and have everyone suck up whatever match came up, which sucks for both casual and competitive players.
And let's be serious, these are online matches against random folks. Is it such a big disaster that they put the only stage that showed up online in Brawl?

Is it better than the way brawl did it? Yes, probably. That alone doesn't make it good, though. Having a cold beats having the flu, but i'd much rather not be sick in the first place.
I see some obvious problems with only playing FD for glory, and I see no reason not to complain about it.
Unless, of course, they make changes or haven't told everything yet. The game isn't out yet, after all.

I think at one point, Sakurai said he felt that adding a traditional stage hazard toggle would take away from the game's charm or something. Every stage having a Final Destination version must be his response to the desire for a hazard toggle.
...It's kind of bewildering to me that he picked the option that involves both more work for his team and less variety for people who prefer to play without stage hazards.
Found the interview
where he explained why there won't be a toggle. From what I can tell, he just didn't want to copy Play Station All Stars Battle Royale... Ugh.

Masahiro Sakurai: Preventing Final Destination spamming by giving a mode that only gives you Final Destination.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.
At least they look different and have different music.
It's also one mode.
The other mode is the opposite, where no FD can exist. It means players will play on the various courses throughout the game, which I think is pretty neat myself. Also, basic "casual online" doesn't allow For Glory mode either, thankfully.
Shadow?Casual as in with friends? Because in "Anyone" there were only said to be 2 modes.

"Oh great! Let's pile up all the useless cats and hope a tree falls on them!"@kayeka: Well, it is true that quite a lot of people in Brawl insisted on picking FD over and over :P I doubt they made that decision purely based on that meme. They probably looked at stats and noticed it kept being picked more than other stages and decided to give in to tourneys after that. So they made mode where people who want only FD can play like that and people who don't want FD don't need to bother with those other people.
...This is probably going to be really wishful thinking, but I wonder if it's possible Sakurai might go to EVO this year for the Melee tournament. Maybe if he's willing to watch actual competitive play in action, he can make adjustments to the For Glory mode that aren't based on discredited memes.
And maybe take player suggestions for balance into consideration.
Especially since FD is agreed to be biased towards projectile-users, which kinda ruins the point of For Glory.
I'm sure they're thinking of balancing against projectile users in competitive play if they're actually thinking of competitive play this time, and also especially because they have one heavily projectile-based character, and seem to be upping the efficacy of projectile attacks in general. They won't want to do that only to have the projectile users become god-tier and everyone else (like Little Mac, say) become the scrub characters.
Not that i especially care (For Fun, always and forever), but it would seem a shame.
Stage Selection Results:

1 Vote towards...(Insert other stage here), 1 vote towards...Random
Final Destination is Picked
Happens 5 times in a row + more times to come = Boring time for players, good times for other players.
The funny thing is, a lot of the times Final Destination got majority voted...it was by the people that would just end up not fighting at all, the "competitive" players rarely ever majority voted, but there was never more than 1 or 2 a match.

In other news, this... this is a thing.
Get hype.
Given how Sakurai seems to have picked up on the "notion" that every tournament setting only uses FD (probably thanks to the FD meme, no less), I doubt it. Even if he learned that a lot of actual tourney players don't like how he's caricatured the tournament scene, with the 3DS version coming in the summer, would he even have enough time to make Battlefield versions of every stage? It's the same problem Snake faces with Kojima saying he wouldn't mind if Snake was included in 4.

"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarTrue, but that'd clash with what Sakurai's doing for the "For Glory" mode. At this point, if he were to include Battlefield, he'd also have to make versions of it for every stage he's including, since Battlefield is another neutral stage favored by the competitive scene (though not the memetic notoriety of FD).
I'd imagine it's not hard to alter the platforms to fit either, but I'm no developer. Plus, with his focus on ensuring the roster is more balanced than previous games, Sakurai might consider any changes like that a low priority.

People in their friend lists, at least.
