The Fool
The only build up is that he alluded to him when introducing a stage, then showed a shadow.
And both times, he heavily implied that he'd be a boss/stage hazard.
Seriously, most of the "build up" is the fans who already wanted him to be playable trying to take any excuse to believe it to be so.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.![]()
I think that's exactly why people think Sakurai is teasing Ridley. Constantly implying Ridley is a stage boss but never outright saying it is exactly something Sakurai would do, without making him an outright Lying Creator.
Albeit, I don't think Ridley's going to be playable either, just I think this is why others think he will be.
Normally I disagree with speculation like that, but that cloud DOES look eerily like Pac-Man...

"And kung fu is a terrible way to run a company" - alliteratorHuh. Might be a joking reference to him, even if he's not in the game. Could've been intentional too. That's just a bit too specific to believe it's definitely a coincidence, though.
Doesn't mean he's in, but I doubt that wasn't on purpose. I could see Bandai-Namco purposely doing that just to mess with us, and Sakurai going along with it for the same reason. They're good at teasing.
Shadow? Is it really that hard to believe that something coincidentally resembles a character as simply-shaped as Pac-Man
?
Namco includes Pac-Man's shape as a sort of gag in a good chunk of their games. This doesn't mean anything- I don't think Talim's tribe worships Pac-Man, for example.
I sure said that!._.
Okay, I've never played Kirby's Air ride, but seriously? It has similar menus for options like Melee?
Sakuraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaai xP Seriously, at this point you can tell all games made by him by comparing options menu to smash bros
Its funny since games themselves don't resemble each other(Well, okay Subspace Emissary is basically pretty awkward Kirby game and Kid Icarus Uprising has enemies explode in same manner as players explode offscreen in Smash Bros, but gameplaywise they don't resemble each other) besides the menu interfaces :P

Aww, man. I was hoping that they'd go for more "battlefield" rather than FD, and only said FD because that one is better known. Seriously, Battlefield is where it's at when it comes to one-on-one sporting, though I suppose it could be a little larger.
This whole "for Glory" thing sounds like they tried to give the competitive players what they wanted, but didn't actually pay any attention to the way competitive smash has developed ever since the "Final Destination , Fox only!" meme got discredited.

^^Hey, baby steps! :P
Yeah, they don't seem to be aware that competive scene isn't only about FD, they just don't accept stages they consider to be too unpredictable or unfair.(like large ass stages where some characters are much better at getting away) I guess next step for them would be to have alternate Battlefield version of every stage.
"Baby steps" shouldn't be necessary. They could watch videos of Brawl tournaments on youtube. Or they could just ask someone who is heavily into that scene. Heck, hire one of those guys, like the people at Capcom did for Street Fighter.
Nintendo is a company that sucks at adopting ideas that didn't come directly from Nintendo.
During the Direct, Sakurai said that there would also be a 'Play with Friends' mode where you could set up any parameters you like. The 'For Fun/For Glory' modes are for playing against random folk.
So in this case, wouldn't any competitive player be spending most of their time playing with friends instead of random match-ups?
