I can't really think of what Tiki would do, though...her only in-game ability is turning into a dragon, which seems like it would only work as a Final Smash. What are your ideas?

Yeah, if we ever get another Mother character, I'd prefer to see Jeff or Duster.

Potentially, you could use skills from the other classes Tiki is capable of taking on, or just have her fight in her dragon form, adding claws, tail swipes and the like to her magic fire. Which, granted, now sounds sort of redundant, what with Charizard returning.

For her final smash, I'd actually suggest a power increase (and giant fireball) by way of the Awakening ritual.

What's silly about Dr. Mario?

Just because Mario's normal iteration is a plumber, and the Dr. Mario is like at the opposite end of the career ladder...

But then how much actually plumbing does Mario ever do? [lol]

Unless kicking things out of pipes counts as plumbing.

Mario is only nominally a plumber. Everybody knows this, even if they don't realize they do. Nintendo references plumbing every now and then (aside from the staple warp pipes), but when it gets down to it Mario is as much a plumber as the Toads are.

Why assume Anna would be a worse fighter than Chrom? Also, if ZSS being in Brawl "hits half of a grandfather clause", if Anna actually was in SSB 4 wouldn't the same be true of her after a while?

Of course it would, but that misses the point of how characters get in in the first place. In ZSS's case, this is thanks to the multiple forms thing Brawl gave her. Anna would just be Anna, a saleswoman first and a swordswoman second, neither role being of any notability for her in the wider plot of any game.

What people don't consider is that plumbing might be an entirely different profession in the Mushroom World.

After all, we don't have any magic warp pipes or giant monsters that live in them.

In the Mushroom Kingdom, a plumber is an explorer, international agent, hero-for-hire, and plumber all in one?

Well, I'm pretty sure the whole "plumber" thing originated with the Mario Bros. game, which takes place in a sewer where they clean out the creatures. Although that is supposed to take place in New York...so I guess all their hardcore New York plumbing is what prepared them to be the ultimate warriors of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Mario's experience is as a Plumber, not a plumber. So he's got extensive experience fighting things from beyond the veil of time and space, but little experience actually fixing pipes that aren't magic.

Or he's as experience a plumber as they come, but since plumbing rarely comes up when you're busy fighting an evil giant turtle king to save a princess for the umpteenth time, it tends to get overshadowed.

I'm now imagining the Mario brothers beating up giant sewer-gators in Brooklyn in their spare time.

The Mario Bros. are only from Brooklyn in non-canon material though. Earth only exists (or only gets mentioned) in the movie, the TV shows, and Mario is Missing!

In the RPGs and Yoshi's Island they're natives to the Mushroom World, though that's not really canon either.

How is the Yoshi's Island series (I say series because it's mentioned in multiple YI games) not canon?

I always heard Mario and Bowser and peach and everyone were just actors or something

Personally I'd consider it canon, but since it's a spinoff and the series isn't big on backstory to begin with, it's kind iffy.

I always heard Mario and Bowser and peach and everyone were just actors or something

People are misinterpreting what Miyamoto said in that interview. He wasn't saying they were literally actors, he was saying they were like actors in that they all have no fixed roles and there aren't hard rules to how things work.

I like to think the Mario Bros. story is one of those old ones that always has spins put on it, so it's hard to figure out what the exact original tale of the mythos is.

"Continuity" and "Mario" do not go together, generally speaking.

@Enlong So where Doctor Who is "the Doctor", Mario is "the Plumber?".

My belief is that the Mario brothers fell into the Mushroom Kingdom through a pipe in Brooklyn and never went back.

I'm personally of the opinion that there's no compelling reason to consider any Mario game noncanon, in that canon means fuck and all to any given game. Yes, even the sports spinoffs.

I sure said that!

Anyway, someone said they assume all the Pokémon starter characters are male because of gender ratios.

I personally don't think the gender ratios of the starters in the games are canon, I think they're only like that for gameplay reasons and they're actually 50/50.

Even if the gender ratios aren't gameplay-only were, Ivysaur and Jigglypuff have been implicitly female.

Pikachu is definitely male, though, since its tail ends in a point instead of an edge.

I sure said that!
