That's because its already the "go to" source for Pokemon voices.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I don't see why not. The anime, whether you like it or not, has made a huge impact upon the Pokémon franchise. If it weren't for the anime, Mewtwo would not be the same character we all know and loved. He'll be more like the savage beast from Origins instead of an intelligent, but confused Pokémon clone trying to find his purpose in the world. Improvised and combo moves are awesome in the anime show, putting a twist in battles as opposed to a turn-base like gameplay style of the games. It would be a shame not to take at least some of them in Smash Bros.

But the Mario Movie can be scientifically proven to have sucked.

I'm curious, which Pokemon moves don't come from the games? I mean there is Pikachu's thunder jolt, which comes from the Trading Card Lame and Lucario's aura storm, which Sora seems to have made up on the spot and I suppose two is a number but "A number of moves" implies a number not worth listing because it is too large.
Buldogue's lawyerEveryone's so opposed to the anime's existence and yet nobody speaks out against Pikachu being playable. How cute.

The funny thing about that is that Mewtwo from the Special actually took some of the backstory and personality of Mewtwo from the original series in the Fire Red and Leaf Green arc.
And I believe that there is a double standard when it comes Pokémon. Pokémon didn't came into mainstream attention as simply video games like Mario or Zelda, it came as a front-loaded franchise with trading cards, books, manga, and an anime show. To ignore an aspect of the Pokémon franchise as a whole in Smash Bros would be insulting to the whole history of Pokémon in general.

Pikachu was a main character in the Pocket Monsters manga nearly a year before the anime was out, that argument is invalid, even with Animation Lead Time. All the anime did was turn Pikachu into a god.
Buldogue's lawyerDo I have to trot this out every time someone tries to make the anime solely responsible for Pikachu's popularity?
Pikachu is only Ash's main Pokemon because it was already incredibly popular from the games. Originally, he was meant to have a Clefairy, but this was changed when people took to the electric mouse.
I thought it was he went from the game's Ensemble Dark Horse to the mascot of the franchise starting with the anime, because he was popular.
Count me in on the "don't mind anime references" crowd, as long as it isn't too overdone. It's a big part of the franchise~

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaPikachu is Ash's Pokemon because it was popular, not the other way around. Though I'm sure it became even more popular via the anime.
Regardless, I don't see what's wrong with ignoring the anime when it comes to Smash. Smash is about video games, not an overshadowing anime with an annoying-as-hell protagonist. Unless you want Bowser to be replaced with Dennis Hopper, or have Link go "Hey, ex-cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, princess!" whenever he defeats Zelda.
...Okay, both of those would be hilarious. But you get what I mean.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Video Game Franchises to be exact. There is more to Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, and others then just video games. Many have comic books, some of which are beloved by fans such as the Super Mario World comics in Nintendo Power. The anime just happens to be the biggest gateway to the franchise other than the games themselves (possibly even bigger than the games ever could), and it's not a So Bad, It's Good show like the Super Mario Bros Super Show. It actually has some genuine great storyin Pokémon history (Pokémon I Choose You, Charmander, the Strayed Pokémon, Electric Showdown are some of my personal favorites).

Unlike the Super Mario Bros. movie, and the Zelda cartoon, the Pokemon anime has done spectacularly well. Whatever you think of its quality, it's been on for 17 years. That's no mean feat.
You're still right, and Smash Bros is about games, but that was a false equivalency.
Either way, I still want the original english anime theme to be a song.
Thing is, the anime's influence on Smash is already suffocating. How else do you explain the Pokémon Speak and Lucario in general? I was just pointing out Pikachu's popularity and use age in media outside of video games was happening before the show.
And I'm pretty glad Pikachu did take off and Nintendo did not just force Clefairy on the fans, the way Bandai just said "Agumon-Greymon, deal with it!" or Tecmo went "No more Hams, you want rice cake penguins." It sucks for Raichu and the constant Pikachu knockoffs did get annoying (Pichu the omnipresent pre-evolution and Pachirisu who added nothing new, were particularly pointless) but it could have been worse.

Buldogue's lawyer

I'm perfectly fine with them Referencing the Anime.
And, yeah, A Flaming Seismic Toss sounds all kinds of Bad Ass
