I'm just going to say it — I don't want Ridley in. I hate him as a character, he's just a brainless animal that people want because he looks vaguely demonic and they wanna be badass. But his inclusion wouldn't be a dealbreaker.
His Fan Dumb... that would be the dealbreaker. If he was announced, I'd jump ship immediately not because of Ridley himself, but because the people who like Ridley would never shut up about it... *shudder* I can just see it now... "I told you so! I told you so! EAT MY HELLDRAGON DICK!"

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerBut then Sakurai would make him a bottom tier character that is pretty easy to defeat and you can go about trouncing all of those Ridley Fan Dumb people online.
After being killed by Samus, like, 5 times I'd say he's pretty dumb. That applies to the Space Pirates as a whole really ("Science Team has vapor for brains.").

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I wouldn't say he's a brainless animal... unless we stick to just the games.
@Baffle Umm, sorry to point it out, but Ridley's only characteristic is that he is apparently extremely intelligent pirate commander despite appearing like mindless animal
At least thats what trophy descriptions, official descriptions and Metroid manga says along with Other M clone ridley manipulating things by riling up creatures before growing up.
Also, they are more likely to shut up if he gets included which is why I want now him to be included. Because otherwise they will never give up

His tail shape and color matches Clone Ridley's tail perfectly. I'm trying to find a picture comparisons.
I do hope his intelligence is shown more clearly in future Metroid games, though I should note Super showed him having decent intelligence, stealing the baby Metroid and escaping well before the station exploded.

Is any of that ever shown onscreen?

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerThe wiki says he's quite intelligent and actually speaks in the prequel(ish?) manga.
And let's be honest here, Ridley has Joker Immunity.
He'll always come back, while Samus can presumably only lose once.

OTHER M IS NOT CANON OTHER M IS NOT CANON OTHER M IS NOT CANON
...
*sobs*
(Yeah, so I was wrong. It doesn't change the fact that I just plain don't like him.)

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerHere is Ridley's tail in the Direct.
◊ And here is Other M Ridley.
◊ Not a 100% match from what I can tell, but the similarity is there.
If Rids is playable and a boss, this should be the Pyrosphere boss when Ridley is being played as.

Also, darn it, two of my google image links didn't work D:

I'm gonna be Mr. Unpopular I'm sure, but everything about that shadow animation screams "boss" to me. He's just fluttering in place, so unless his typical standing animation has him placed 10 feet in the air at all times, I'm going with boss on this one.
And while I certainly wouldn't mind playable Ridley, I don't think he would bring anything to the table moveset-wise we haven't seen in Smash before, besides being second (Third now I guess?) Metroid rep.

Fully agreeing with Enlong. Whether or not he's playable, there is no question Sakurai is trying to yank our chains.
Shadow?
