Unpopular opinion time: Him showing Ridley's shadow when talking about other bosses does seem pretty obvious that he is meant to be a boss. It's pretty common to show a "hint" when talking about more to come on something, and to assume that he was hinting at a playable character when he said "boss" just seems delusional thinking to me. Sorry.
And before you say "oh, but troll", most of the other trolls in the videos were more "gotcha" kinda things, like the Pseduo-Palutena trophy. To assume that he put in something out of context just to trick a vocal minority on the Internet seems kinda...weird to me.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.It doesn't matter to me if Ridley is either a boss or playable. Either way, the thought that I can use Zamus to defeat him is awesome. I'd like him playable but the purchase doesn't hinge on it like it does for so many other Ridley supporters.
Vote. .#Bayonetta 4 SmashHmm, guys in that thread did make a rather good point I guess: Tail clipping does show it is based on Other M design, but other m ridley is REALLY bulky and muscular
◊ while arms on shadow look like normal lanky and thing Ridley. So it seems like he has composite design and they haven't done composition design to characters that aren't playable so far.

@Pulse: To note, Master Hand was treated as a regular character in 64. You could move him too. His actual attacks went into a scripted animation, but he floated everywhere. Basically, Ridley might be controllable as a boss to test out how he works. In later games, it was all scripted attacks and you couldn't move them with the control stick(this applies to Master Hand and Crazy Hand in Melee. I cannot remember how the bosses work in Brawl, though. I don't know the data)
Also, maybe it could be a boss mode(this was brought up a bit before, by Moth 13 I think), where one player plays as a boss, and the other plays regular characters. You could control them the same way you do in 64.
As for the shadows, if he is playable as a regular character, he could've been hit by a Super Mushroom first. Note, this is before I saw the Game FA Qs topic. If it wasn't a Super Mushroom, the Debug Menus in Melee proved you could change a character's size to many different degrees. I think the shadows are equivalent to their size as well. So, size doesn't mean much. I think the only thing that'll really guarantee he's a stage hazard is if we see him actually go through the hole in the Pyrosphere. Also, as noted, Other M Ridley could be the stage hazard, and a different one could be playable. This has some similarities with the Toon Link scenario. The trophies note it's "how he appeared in Wind Waker", so you could argue he's specifically the one from WW/PH. ST's Link is a different person, which would explain why two different ones could exist at the same time.
...Of course, now that they split Samus and Zero Suit Samus(there's only one), that idea is unnotable. There is more than one Zelda, and there can be a different Sheik.

@Last page's talk regarding items and characters: I'm pretty sure I saw a Franklin Badge in a screenshot somewhere, so I believe the MOTHER/Earthbound series is returning in this game.

*peeks in*
Oh fuck people are still arguong about Ridley
*gets the fuck out*
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — Ultimatepheerlol, who is arguing about it? I'm just annoyed that my comments on silly gamefaqs thread are ignored.
Though gotta admit that while I prefer Ridley as a boss, I'm so tired of Ridley for smash stuff that I want him to be playable so nobody rants about that anymore.
Anyway, no clue where people get "He grabbed Pikachu" thing but I'm surprised nobody has done slow mo version of his shadow
Sure they do weird size comparison thingies, but no slow mo? What has this world become?!

I personally believe that Ridley's design here is based more on Zero Mission than anything.
Probably me being optimistic. Zero Mission had my favorite Ridley design.

I'm personally betting that Ridley is going to be the Mega Man of this year's E3.
I sure said that!I just want to say that while I think Sakurai is definitely trolling, I'm not saying anything about it is a deliberate clue to him actually being playable. I just mean that he knows that being vague will whip the fans into a froth. Sakurai's a man who knows his audience, and likes to wind them up, whatever the actual result is.
I have a message from another time...Yeah, it really does seem suspicious that Ridley was not clearly shown at this point if he was just a hazard or boss.

x4 and
Exactly. Sakurai is a master troll and he's already won seeing how the fan base has been so wound up over that. The outcome of it is completely meaningless. The troll has not only been fed but stuffed to the brim.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!

That's just it- He moves left, stops, then suddenly moves left again. It's how playable characters move, not bosses.
I sure said that!
