As a note, I don't think Zero Suit Samus' Paralyzer has a plasma whip function anymore. It's all about the jet boots now.
I sure said that!Wasn't able to watch it live, but I did catch it on Youtube. Main thoughts:
Removing the transformations was pretty ballsy, considering it's been standard since Melee, but in the long run I think it was a smart decision. It gives the characters more moves to play with and removes the need to memorize an alternative moveset, which should work for the people who main either side of the coin. It's a shame we lost Pokemon Trainer in that decision though.
Yes, put me in the most-likely-naive crowd of "Ridley is still possible". Sakurai was on full-troll mode tonight, and he seems to be cognizant enough of the community to know exactly which strings to tug.
Smash Run looks like the Metroid Vania Adventure Mode I dreamed Brawl would have had. I think my favorite part is how most of the enemies are taken from other Nintendo series rather than going through another Original Generation of goons. It's like Sakurai's actually listening to us.
I don't have a Wii U, but my sister's got a 3DS, and I know she'll have a blast with this.
"For Glory" mode is simply hilarious, yet also makes a lot of sense. I also like the FD versions of the other stages. You can definitely tell Sakurai's trying to make Smash more competitively friendly, and I think it's working.
I'm going to have to apologize to all the people who wanted Blaziken, because Greninja just became the character I didn't know I wanted. For a Pokemon that didn't have that great a chance in the grand scheme of things, Sakurai certainly churned out a badass mofo, making it very different from Sheik despite sharing the whole ninja schtick. In terms of balancing out playable starters, I'd have to put my vote of Sceptile as well, both for popularity and moveset capability.

I'm not sure why so many people possess the opinion that this installment is overloaded with Pokemon. Melee had 4, Brawl had 6, and SSB 4 looks to have 5 or 6.
...![]()
Currently 4...Jiggly Puff = 5.
They've already explained why its called "Bouncing Fish" ... its not that stupid without reasoning.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Jeez, I forgot how quickly this thread moves. (Though being away from this thread for probably over half a year certainly doesn't help.)
No doubt the Winter 2014 release date for the Wii U version is to capitalize on the holiday rush to bolster Wii U sales. A Smash Bros. bundle is inevitable. (And my damnable lack of funds by which to procure a Wii U is all the more damnable for it.)
Guess I'll go in order.
The new Final Destination looks amazing. And that rock remix of "Ballad of the Goddess"? Literally GDLK.
Ridley redacted yet again on the grounds of HE'S TOO BIG, huh? I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed for Captain Syrup, Medusa, Chrom/Lucina, Isaac, Mona, Professor Layton, Lip (another obligatory WTF entry), Geno (someone had to be the one to mention him, might as well be me)...
Still waiting for Falcon, by the way.
Pong? Insta top-tier Assist Trophy right there. Get hype.
The changes to Zelda (insert JoJo's joke here) and ZSS look interesting (Prepare to countdown! ROCKET POWER!), though I'm sure using the heels from Samus' Other M design is bound to bring up bad memories for some many people.
Wait... Couldn't Dedede throw Gordos in Brawl? It was far more seldom than Waddle Dees and Waddle Doos, but I'm pretty sure this isn't new. (Lack of Waddle Dee for Side Special = playable Bandana Dee? Let the speculation begin!)
So Lucario's Aura mechanics now affect his recovery, eh? And said recovery now deals damage? Hm...
Getting some Roy flashbacks
with Mac's Slip Counter. Also, I'm expecting those pics of Mac helplessly flailing in the air to go memetic. Don't fail me, internet.
No words can do my reaction to the Blue Bomber's Greatest Five Final Smash any justice, so I'll just be off in the corner praising Helix. Excuse me.
(And the Mega Upper predates MvC. C'mon, Sakurai. Get your head in the game.
)
Custom movesets... Interesting.
Maybe it's just me, but why do I get the feeling fans are going to view Smash Run as the poor man's Adventure Mode/SSE?
Charizard doesn't surprise me, though Greninja kind of does (and this is coming from a guy who picked Froakie as my starter). I was honestly betting on Mewtwo given his Gen VI resurgence with the most recent movie and his Mega Evolutions and whatnot (though his chances seem slim unless Pokémon is getting six reps), or, failing that, Sylveon (for similar, but less prominent promotion prior to Gen VI's inception) note . Still, have to give the kappa ninja some love. Plus, I'm getting some serious Chipp/Strider Hiryu/Valkenhayn vibes from that Final Smash, so it gets my seal of approval... which means absolutely squat in the grand scheme of things, may I add.
For some old news, glad to see they're basically using Marth's totally majestic New Mystery look. It would be nice if they similarly updated his voice work note and maybe made his quotes a little less showboaty and more in line with Shadow Dragon note . Oh, and maybe an option to pick and choose (where applicable) who speaks in Japanese and who speaks in English, a la SFIV, MvC3, and BlazBlue. A man can dream, right?
And on the subject of Fire Emblem, I'm guessing that if Chrom or Lucina makes the cut, they're basically going to have most of their moveset created from the ground up. The battle animations in Awakening looks basic (IMO) compared to what we saw in the GBA and Tellius games, which works better for normals, but not so much when it comes to specials (Aether, in particular, is just dull in comparison to the whirling dervish of death Ike's version is).
On a tangential note, Sonic = top counter-pick for Mega Man.
Calling it now.
And on that note, Pepsi Man for SSB4! Let's go!

"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarThey've made it so Dedede "Only" throws Gordos now, they were random before and flew a lot farther too.
They could, they just didn't.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I understood what Sakurai was getting at; it just sounded like he (or maybe the translator) was making it seem that Gordos were a completely new thing.
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarIt was most likely poor wording.

Summer vs Winter: eh, i can see why in some ways, in others it feels like they're throwing the Wii U under the bus (again). At least that means i'll have to buy the 3DS version
Smash Run: All of my "Yes". I LOVED City Trial from Air Ride, so a Smash Bros version is just yus.
ZSS: Not sure how to feel about "non-switchable in battle." At least it means she's no longer a gimped character. Also, at least they found an in-game justification for the heels.
Sheik: Same feelings as ZSS. "Bouncing Fish" is a very dumb name for a move. Though if this detaches her from Zelda, all the better, as I liked Zelda but never much cared for Sheik
Good to see Yoshi back, no real comment there.
Charizard AND Greninja? Seems too many character slots. Probably hurts Jigglypuff's chances. Greninja is a good choice that people wouldn't have expected, though.
Good of them to separate out online mode. I can stay in "For Fun" and keep well away from "For Glory." While those who would prefer it otherwise have it their way too. We all win!
"Final Destination Form" is nice too, a good compromise between those who demand a simple stage and those of us who get bored of the scenery on Final Destination.
Custom Moves is super-cool too. Can't wait to see more.
The Wii U "Winter" thing hurts, especially on the fear that it will be delayed into 2015, but overall it was what you'd expect from a Direct like this.
