Well, sure. The ad calling the game "Super Smash Bros. 6" doesn't make sense. But if the ad is real (which Siliconera seems pretty confident in), nothing makes sense.
Calling the next two games SSB 6? A typo doesn't make sense, because the writer of the ad (Tatsuya Matsumura) called it that twice. Him being misinformed about the title doesn't make sense, because he's worked in the industry for years. How could he be that ignorant? And I don't know a lot about game development, so you can correct me if I'm wrong, but adding in 80 new developers for two games that have already been in development for two years seems very atypical. Shouldn't there already be a full staff of developers?
Okay, well, maybe the 6 isn't a mistake. Maybe Matsumura is referring to a new Smash game releasing after 4 and 5 (Wii U and 3DS). But the ad says 6 is releasing for Wii U and 3DS too. Wouldn't that make it 6 and 7? Maybe it refers to DLC. But then why would there be a paragraph on the importance of retail games when they're hiring for DLC, not a retail game?
I guess after all this, the ad being fake might be the simplest explanation. But... I don't know. It just seems too detailed and too weird in really specific ways to be fake to me.

Interesting. I just wish he legitimately confirmed returning Assist Trophies outside of Waluigi. Then again, he only implied Isabelle was an Assist Trophy with his wording, but didn't actually confirm it.
So the list of uncomfirmed(that means he didn't actually say it, as hints and implications don't count) Assist Trophies so far are Metroid, Isabelle, Koume & Kotake, Andross, Starfy, and Cuccoo in total. I think I got all of 'em...
Was kinda hoping for at least an update that confirmed more than "this guy appears in a capacity unknown in this game, have fun guessing".
Shadow?Nope, don't count as confirmation. It's still a guess to what it is. And only the previous Assist Trophies are at least obvious, as the other three SSB 4 ones I mentioned are far harder to place due to the fact they didn't have a role in the previous game.

As in an Assist Trophy returning from Brawl. Only Waluigi had that specific pleasure of outright being confirmed. Everybody else he made us guess. It could be because Waluigi was the only one capable of being a regular Fighter, as he somewhat joked about on his Brawl page, so maybe it was joke to say "No, he isn't a Fighter this time. Yeah." Who knows?
I did forget Phantom, thank you.

Shadow?@ doctrain:
Waluigi was an assist trophy in Brawl, which came before SSB 4.

I think Sakurai just doesn't treat us like idiots and trusts us to recognize what some things clearly are, even if he doesn't explicitly state it. The only ones I'd really consider debatable are Koume & Kotake, Phantom, and Cucco.
...Kinda funny that they all happen to be from Zelda.
Welcome to th:|Nah. Sakurai's a bit of a troll and loves to mess with us. Dedenne, for instance. Why even bother to not say what his role is? Same with Xerneas. Nobody knows. Both are probably Poke Balls.
All he's done is left us guessing, any time he doesn't directly confirm it. He's even vague at times, notably with Isabelle. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if she only shows up on Smashville(possibly all versions?) to throw food once in a while for players to eat. Would hurt the competitive value of that stage, but eh.
Shadow?I'd say Dedenne is pretty clearly a Poke Ball Pokemon. We know that Poke Balls are returning as an item because he explicitly referred to Palkia as such, and we saw Dedenne using what was clearly an attack, on a stage that is not Pokemon-related.
Xerneas on the other hand is more vague because all we saw was the back of his head in an unclear area. But in the case of Dedenne and the Assist Trophies returning from Brawl, I think the chance that they're anything other than what they appear to be is extremely slim, to the point that there's no real point in entertaining the idea unless we get information that proves otherwise.
Anyways, I was thinking about Sakurai's comments about new Zelda items, and how about the Grappling Hook as an item that lets you steal items that other people are holding, or just grab items from afar?

Welcome to th:|They're vague to me since they aren't confirmed. That's honestly all I need to know; Is it confirmed? No? Automatically vague. He presumably is a Poke Ball. I think Xerneas is too, anyway. Wouldn't be surprised.
I think he did enough Zelda items. Give the other franchises a bit of love, really. >_<

Shadow?I suppose it would be nice to have a website with specific sections for stages and items and such, like the old Dojo, to avoid situations like this. I'm hoping they'll give the site a makeover at E3 or something that adds stuff besides the characters and pics of the day...

Welcome to th:|I find it smarter to assume Sakurai's not treating us like idiots and assumes we have the basic capability to assume things when it's bloody obvious. Metroid is an Assist Trophy, as is Starfy. Absolutely zero doubts about that. There may be ambiguity for some of them, such as Cucco, and if you really want to be pedantic Isabelle, since she appeared on the AC stage, but just because Sakurai doesn't specify every little detail doesn't mean he's misleading us.

My guesses are that the Cucco is an item that walks around, like Mr. Saturn, that Twinrova are stage hazards, and...well, I'm still really not sure about the Phantom.

Yeah, my way of thinking is that if he shows an Assist Trophy from Brawl and doesn't feel the need to specifically say it's not an Assist Trophy anymore, then it's safe to say that it's still an Assist Trophy. But I guess Irene just has a different way of thinking of things, as absolutely confirmed or not confirmed, and that's fine. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.
Anyway, DIRECT IN 28 HOURS AAAAAAAHH

Welcome to th:|Koume and Kotake would make a good Assist Trophy, but I think they'd make a great stage hazard, considering that they've been shown on Gerudo Valley, a reasonable home turf for the duo.
And Cucco could easily be an Assist Trophy that can be picked up. It's happened with Pokeball entries.
I have a message from another time...Yeah, that's true. It could be an Assist Trophy that can be picked up, or it could be an item that moves around...although since those would be functionally the same in terms of gameplay, it seems impossible to say one way or the other without further information.

Welcome to th:|

An there's no way to call either of the versions Smash Bros 6, of all things.
I have a message from another time...
