You know, I just realized: we have 24 characters confirmed. This means we probably have over half the roster confirmed. It's not even E3 yet.
Unless they just really stuff a ton of characters in this game, and Sakurai's statements make me highly doubt this.
"And kung fu is a terrible way to run a company" - alliteratorI have a feeling that, all together, people think there's something unfair about each and every single stage.
And Irene, I didn't say anything about the date; that was Moth. I was apologizing for misinformation on my part.

And the main tropes page is (partly) where I got my false information from!

Eh.There's always the possibility that the person preparing the updates occasionally thinks that further context beyond what is implie by the visuals may be redundant.
Clearly, a form of underesitmating the fanbase, but not every omitted explanation is part of a long plan, I think.
I have a message from another time...Also, we don't even know what role Male Wii Fit Trainer will play, aside from just appearing.
Is he an assist trophy? A cameo? A summon character part of Female Trainer's moveset? Maybe he could be an alternate costume for all we know (which would be funny for me if this turned out to be the case).
But I digress. And I regret even making that comment now.

Eh.Or he translated it differently for each region just because.
After reading more than one, I can safely say the translations aren't always accurate to the original meaning in the Japanese post. So that's not even applicable to every single one. That Japanese Miiverse post of the supposed costume? Same thing. It does not mention it more than a celebration of when Wii Fit came out, and showed a picture of the regular Wii Fit Trainer and a male one without any real context. Also, keep in mind then when it was posted, it was November 1st in Japan.
Also, in addition, Sakurai did note when Valentine's Day was before, so he's not being clear on what Holidays matter at this point in time. Plus, the fact he hasn't announced when an Assist Trophy has come up each time makes it very possible that's all the male version is. I still lean towards it being a costume, but it's definitely unclear what his role is at this time. It's reasonable to guess, but reasonable to act like he confirmed it... which is blatantly never said it was a costume regardless. Anywhere.
This guy gets it. I feel the same way. Non-confirmations should stay speculation only.
Also, I double checked. All speculation of what his role is(besides noting that his role is unknown) was removed from the trope pages proper. I await a WMG of it, but yeah.

Shadow?A few moves were directly confirmed. One of those was Diddy Kong's Barrel Rockets. Then there's Wii Fit Trainer's Final Smash. A good chunk of Mega Man's moves and most of Villager's moves existing. Little Mac's standard special can OHKO people if his power meter is charged, a few Final Smashes otherwise, and some of Rosalina's moves.
Diddy has the least directly said. We see that his Peanut Popgun was apparently back, and that a Banana appears, but that was an Item too, so we got no clue on that one. Reasonable guess, but that's it.

We've seen that exact same pose on Zelda, with her arm slightly more extended with a Phantom nowhere to be seen.
So, unless we're to expect that the Phantom appears, slashes, and vanishes, all in the time it takes Zelda's arm extend fully, I'd say there's pretty much no reason to expect the Phantom is part of her moveset.
It looks to me like it was an Assist Trophy that was cleverly timed with Zelda's jab to make an interesting picture.

And until Sakurai tells us what Phantom is, putting the Phantom with a design that is specific to Zelda's own possession(as in possessing it) on her page is the way to go. For now.
I'm sure he'll mention what it does later. Or we'll have to wait for the game to come out.
For all we know, it was an idea that'll be scrapped. He did say movesets were "subject to change"(or something akin to that. I forgot the exact words).

Shadow?Wait, so Diddy can't yet be assumed to have anything to do with that banana peel, but it's safe to put the Phantom on Zelda's character sheet already? I don't get that. Shouldn't we just mention the Phantom on the main Smash Bros. page as a reference to Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks?

I have a message from another time...If you haven't played any of those games, do it now.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."That's entirely not what I mean, Enlong.
First, the Banana Peel is both an Item and a Move. We can't confirm what it is due to that alone.
That Phantom has the design of a Zelda-Possessed one. Until a Miiverse post exists, putting it on Zelda's page is logical.
Both require a Miiverse post(or the game comes out or Sakurai actually says it somewhere) to confirm what they are. Phantom may or may not be a Move. That Banana Peel may or may not be Diddy Kong's specific move. They're both vague right now, but putting them on their page makes sense. Even if it isn't Diddy's current Down B(because it might not be it), he's heavily associated it with them due to Brawl, as well as Mario Kart Double Dash where that was his special item(and DK's too). Where else would he put it to show off that a Banana Peel is back? Outside of Miiverse, anyway.
The situations are not exactly the same right now. One could be a Move or Item, and one could be a Move or a Summon. Also, note what I said about the Phantom's design. There's a reason to put it on their pages, but it might not necessarily be because it's their Move.
Shadow?

Not entirely impossible. Meta Knight can fly underneath it and right back up the other side.
I like the first Final Destination. It's just a big octagon, but smaller than the other Final Destinations.
