Well that's your opinion, but I don't think that's reflected in sales or critical reception. See here.

I think I'm going to put together a bingo board
.
Sure Bets: Ness, Meta Knight, Captain Falcon, Wario, Yoshi
Surprised: ROB, Mr Game And Watch, Ice Climbers, Ganondorf, Falco
Probably: Jigglypuff, Ike, Palutena, Pac Man, Snake
Might: Dark Hunter / Metroid Prime, Ridley, Isaac, Mewtwo, Ray
Long Shots: Agumon, Wonder-Red, Shanoa, Isa & Kachi
Alternate long shots: Wreck It Ralph, Shantae, Tails, Simon Belmont, Avatar, Travis Touchdown, Bayonetta
And I didn't even get into King K. Rool, Krystal, Wolf, and others. This series has a lot of reasonably expected characters (which makes me more disappointed to see the Geno/Cloud/anime character crowd)
If Konami had any representative, I'd rather it be Shanoa.
Thanks, I accidentally skipped over Weegee

As far as cuts are confirmed-don't expect Sakurai to be liberal with them.
Are we counting replacements to the newcomer total? I think Sakurai will get around expanding the roster a lot by replacing certain characters
I can't guarantee many things but I can say that is definitely not going to happen. Sakurai has pretty much gone on record saying he won't be cutting characters out of the way. Replacing characters would pretty much be the anthesis of what he said.
He also said that he'll try to bring everyone back from the earlier games, but it's likely he have to cut some. Replacements may very well happen.(although only two have happened in the history of Smash anyway, that is, playable characters, being Pichu(who you think replaced him between Pokemon Trainer and Lucario is up to the person) and Young Link(by Toon Link). Nobody else applies for replacements whatsoever)
I wouldn't be surprised if he replaced someone specifically. And not just the Fighting "Whoever" Team.

Ike returning a given? What similar thing do they share for you to make that conclusion?
Agreed.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.
Both were supposedly "outdated" by more recent games.
And for the record, Marvel 2 is considered one of the greatest fighting games of all time, but most people will agree that it's still horribly balanced. I'd call it similar to Melee: only a few characters are actually viable, but the viable characters are so fun to watch that people just don't care.

Ike IS "outdated" by the newer FE games...Lucario WAS "outdated" by the previous Pokemon Generation, he still has some amount of relevancey in the newest Generation games, while Ike has none.

You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!

It's a fighting game with party elements, actually.
Calling it a party game is severely misleading.
Regardless, a 50-size roster is perfectly fine and is very fun to play, as it includes more than enough fan favorites for everyone. The trick is making sure no character is beyond ridiculous in the vein of Meta Knight. Everybody in Melee and even 64 were fine and viable enough. Ganondorf and Meta Knight in Brawl, however, weren't. One was too strong, and one was way too weak.(I realize the irony of this, since Ganondorf's attacks hit far harder than Meta Knight's, but you get what I mean. Ganondorf was horribly designed in Brawl and one of the worst characters, along with Zelda and Link)
Shadow?
