Well, you could say the same of a lot of other characters' moves. Quite a lot of them simply were never attacks in their games.

Yoshi + babies potential FS: Any hit on Yoshi will cause the baby to get caugh in a bubble and start crying, crating shockwaves that will send every poor smasher in the area flying.

[up][up] Like ZSS's emergency stun rifle.

Though, I must say, I'm very impressed that Samus had the forethought to stash a rechargeable stun pistol on her person just in case her nearly-unbreakable power armor was destroyed.

[up]Nope, that gun was featured in Metroid: Zero Mission back in 2004.

[up] evil grin

I do think the vehicle transformations might make for a Final Smash that better represents Yoshi's own series, although the call back to "Super Yoshi" from Super Mario World for eating a flashing koopa shell was a neat bit of history.

I really like the concept behind Yoshi's Final Smash, and hope they keep it.

I hope they add the earthquake stomp effect to it though.

Doh, no playable WALUIGI TIME. At least crotch chops will still be invoked when he appears.

When do you wager Wario will be shown? Perhaps when Wario Land 4 hits the GBA VC for the Wii U?

[up][up]Well he's flying constantly, he can't really do the stomp if he can't land on the ground, but I think they made the stomp effect smaller as a part of his ground pound to just have it in there too.

I'd just make it so that if you fly into the ground from a certain height, it creates a damaging shockwave in the immediate vicinity.

You know, why don't they just use non-standard cartridges for the 3DS version, so they don't have to limit the roster size? It's not the first time Nintendo's made non-standard cartridges.

Is that what it was? I always thought it was just completely extracted from their collective anus. I guess I never quite expected such a minor thing to be referenced in such a big way. Though, if they really wanted to be accurate about it, as soon as Yoshi presses B in that form, he'd immediately lose all the effects of the final smash, but the fireballs would be spit out then (instead of during the smash) tongue

[up][up]I think time is a bigger issue than space on the roster. Even if they're not rushed, they'll only have so much time to put in stuff.

First off, Sakurai wasn't that interested in expanding the roster size by very much in the first place. Second, I think maybe the limits the 3DS puts on the game have been overstated. Tekken 3D: Prime Edition manages to get a 41 character roster and a 100-minute movie onto the cart, and running at 60 fps in 3D. Remove the space taken up by Blood Vengeance and you have tons of room for extras and such.

Not enough space? Take a look at X and Y's nearly 1000 3D models and tell me again there is not enough space.

Also adding more characters means more balancing, more play testing, more time, and even then you end up with OP characters like Meta Knight.

[up][up]Fighters are more complicated than Pokemon, mind you. I don't think the issue is holding all the 3D models, it's holding all the other stuff they need.

Other than attacks, basic animations and voice dialogues (if they have them), what else?

135 -> 180 -> 273 -> 191 -> 188 -> 230 -> 300 -> 311

Hitboxes and how different move affect them come to mind.

Hitboxes are a big difference, especially, since Pokemon have no need for them. Everything there is calculated by numbers and then animated.

@Tc: It's a bit different from Pokemon, much more animations are needed. I'm not really sure how much memory is a limitation for the game though.

Sakurai wasn't that interested in expanding the roster size by very much in the first place.

He didn't say that exactly. He said just expanding the roster wouldn't do, he has to consider what possible contenders could bring to the game.

Which could be interpreted as him not planning to add many characters, but I don't think it's really certain. He's certainly gone back on his word before anyway.

Anyway, what exactly do you consider a reasonable expansion? And what would be too small and what'd be too big?

IDK about you, but having an expansion as big as Brawl and Melee (~15 newcomers) would leave enough room for every character I'd like to be added.
