I don't necessarily think that's true. You can't sell many more copies of Final Fantasy IV than they already have, at least until there's more turnover in the market. They could sell a lot more copies of Bravely Default with Smash Bros.' Colbert Bump.
I'd rather have someone far more well known than just a new guy. Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest, or someone from Super Mario RPG if we're pushing it.
Albeit, if having Square-Enix in means we can get a Super Mario RPG in addition to their own personal IP, I'll accept that as a double third-party because it's an extremely special condition. One of the third parties is a Mario character. However, I doubt that would happen anyway, so we can probably leave SMRPG out to dry(minus cameos via Trophies/Stickers/Assist Trophies/Music/Stages/Anything else I forgot somehow).
There are tons of Final Fantasy games. I wouldn't be surprised if we did get a rep from one of the first 6(or possibly others since many have had notable Nintendo appearances, even previous Playstation only protagonists) that we had trophies spanning from multiple games. I doubt only one Final Fantasy game would get any representation if we got a character. It didn't apply to Sonic or Metal Gear when their appropriate characters appeared, why would it apply now?

Shadow?Yeah. Neku could appear on both. And would, since the roster is going to be the same on both versions according to Sakurai.(will we be able to unlock everyone without connecting, though? Nobody knows. Most presume that won't be necessary, which I don't much care either way, but I see a good reason to have a solid finished roster on each version without buying the other as a better idea, personally. The other exclusives do well enough in making people want the other game)
Anyway, those are some interesting choices from 4 Games/Franchises, though.

Shadow? What I want is a majority of oldcomers and a handful of newcomers. But preferably adding up to more characters than Brawl had.
How do characters make the cut? By not being clones, by being current, and by not hurting themselves when they attack?
So Dr. Mario was just another Mario clone, Roy gets dropped for Ike, Mewtwo gets dropped for Lucario (or "spiritually successed"), Young Link gets replaced with Toon Link, and Pichu gets dropped for being a weaker Pikachu.
...a Weakachu.
But still cute.
Who are some Brawl fighters who might actually not make it to Super Smash Bros 4?
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stay@ pheer: Off the top of my head for specials,
B, Pyrokinesis: For a few seconds, if you hold B a flame will travel out of Neku. The flames are controllable with the control stick.
B>, Lightning Rook: Neku shoots out a beam of lighting in front of him. Enemies are stunned for a second if caught in it.
B
, (whatever that one pin that teleports you above the enemy and then slashes downwards): Neku teleports above the closest enemy and slashes downwards. If there's no enemy in range, he'll just teleport above his original position.
B
, (that one pin that summons a giant stereo speaker to blast giant sound waves): Neku summons a speaker behind him. As long as the button is held, sound waves will blast out of the speaker. The waves get smaller and weaker as the button is held.
Final Smash, Object Rain: Neku summons Joshua and they teleport to opposite sides of the stage. For several seconds, increasingly large objects start raining on the stage.

Maybe. We've never had a character return after being absent for a game so it's unclear how Sakurai would count it. It might not matter though since so much has changed with Pokemon and Mewtwo that it would effectively be a different character from the Melee one.

Eh, if I had to guess about any Brawl characters not making the cut, I'd say Pokemon Trainer.
Not that I don't like him. Or his Pokemon. But he seems just a bit...excessive.
Who else? Possibly R.O.B. Not that I don't like him either, but he doesn't seem like he'd be popular enough to stay.
A lot of the other fighters though I'd expect to keep.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stayIt might be feasible to have no cuts, as this game is being built over a ported Brawl instead of being made from scratch like Melee and 64.
Also, here's a Ridley!Kirby looking suspiciously like Kain.

For Neku's basic attacks:
Jab Combo: Shockwave psych
Forward Tilt: Lance Lunge
Down Tilt: Stellar Flurry
Up Tilt: Vulcan Uppercut
Forward Smash: Massive Hit
Down Smash: Vortex Saber
Up Smash: Ice Risers
Dash Attack: Velocity Tackle
Nair: Spark Core
Other Aerial Moves: Generic Shockwave attacks, I guess
Final Smash: I can't decide between Mewzilla, Jesus Meteor, or Surfin' Shibuya, so maybe just the giant Fusion attack he uses to finish off Draco Cantus.
I have a message from another time...

Agnes would make sense but I feel like Square would push for a more well known character.
