Still blows my mind that one guy on GameFAQs predicted it so many years ago.
I'll be probably be getting both versions. They'll offer different things that I'll like in different circumstances.
I've noticed that Lucario, Mewtwo, and Charizard all seem to be the most important Pokemon after Pikachu lately. They're popular, heavily promoted, have Mega evolutions, and are playable in Smash. I still say Lucario is a better choice than Mewtwo, though getting both is of course ideal.
Who gets promoted more than Blaziken after Charizard, Mewtwo, Lucario, and Pikachu? No one.
All 5 of those are always available without events in most games, making them easy to play as, so the promotions only further make them popular.
I like Jigglypuff but even I admit she gets little promotion as is.
Shadow?I stand corrected, then. Apologies.
However, Blaziken does seem to show more importance to a degree. Being the only third gen starter to get a Mega Evolution is a huge thing, imo. Piplup had a slew bit more releases than Blaziken/Torchic, but not much, notably. I think most of Piplup's stuff was solely due to popularity power in Japan. Blaziken seems to go off better in more than just one Region for the Anime.
I don't know, I might be wrong. But Blaziken is up there undoubtedly.
Shadow?Blaziken is indeed a popular choice. Having a Mega Evolution is a sign of popularity IMO. And the damn cock gets it as an event! And to top it off, it's the first mega evolution seen in the anime, though cloacked in shadow.
Though the popularity wars often boil down to Nostalgia Filter half the time.

No, I'm basing my negativity on the fact that the whole "Waah, there are too many veterans in this game, it's obviously Brawl.2" isn't remotely legit nor understandable. And whilst what I speculated is certainly not the only way in which things can happen, at least I don't jump to silly conclusions based on absolutely nothing. We are constantly getting characters that were in Brawl revealed? How dare they!
Agreed.

In the first game, she was made a semi-clone of Kirby, sharing a good amount of A moves and a throw. Mewtwo was far harder for them to implement in 64, but was planned. In Melee, Mewtwo was finally realized as is without issues. But Jigglypuff still stayed.
Come Brawl, well, there's Jigglypuff because she was in the first game. She didn't play like Kirby(beyond their jumps and maybe an A move or a really small amount in total), but was already a major veteran by that point. She was most popular character in the Anime after Pikachu which is why she got into 64 in the first place. It's possible that popularity never fully left? Mewtwo was the most done out of the Forbidden 7 as well, so she could be entirely high priority for as said, Grandfather Clause.

Shadow?I don't get it. How is adding Lucario more lazy than adding Mewtwo? It's not like they'd have to make Mewtwo's moveset from scratch, and it's not like they had an HD model of Lucario ready to use.
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."If getting a Mega Evolution is a sign of popularity, how did Abomasnow get one?
I was tossing ideas for what gen 6 Pokemon I'd like to see as a character, and I came upon Espurr and discovered it was based on a Scottish Fold, which is the type of cat (I think) Sakurai has.
So I want Espurr because its the closest we'll ever get to playing as Sakurais Cat
About the lazyness part, it's just an assumption that porting over and polishing a character from a Wii game is probobly easier than from a Gamecube one? I dunno.
That and Mewtwo never had a Final Smash, while Lucario has one. So they didn't have to work on giving Mewtwo one.
I dunno how much work it is to remake a character or to create Final Smashes from scratch, but those were my initial thoughts on "why Lucario and not Mewtwo."
Hey, I never thought anyone liked Mawile, and then we get a Mega Mawile. And yes, Espurr for Smash Bros, please!
Espurr is superior to Goomy anyway.

I agree Lucario coming back first probably did make more sense anyway. He was plot relevant to the X/Y games, after all. That, and as said, less to port. Mewtwo could possibly be heavily overhauled from Melee, so he'd take longer. Jigglypuff is, for some people, a "duh", so showing her off early is unnecessary and doesn't generate hype. Since that Ice Climbers statement(which seems moot now that Rosalina & Luma came up to bat), a lot have thought Pokemon Trainer would not come back, not that they shouldn't, of course(also, that's 3 characters to make playable at once, so...). I think Lucario was the easiest choice to make here for who to show off Pokemon-wise first for various reasons.
Purely a theory, of course.
Shadow?I have to say, I agree that Blaziken is getting the push lately, at least here in Gen. 6. Just saying.
If they did bring Pokemon Trainer back, anybody want to speculate on what guys he'd have? Personally I think Chespin, Braixen, and Greninja, but that's just me...
"And kung fu is a terrible way to run a company" - alliterator

Nope. You can't use the Mega Evolutions until Korrina gives you the Mega Ring, which occurs just after the Mega Lucaruo vs Mega Lucario battle.
I have a message from another time...
