Why are some players missing Mewtwo? Wasn't it one of the worst-rated fighters in Melee? Was anyone suspecting it was going to appear because of X and Y? Or is it because of nostalgia?

Because he can't possibly be made more useful in the next game, right?

That's a pretty tight positioning for those characters if he's just a stage hazard.

Lucario is air-dodging.

Pokemon has a good shot of getting 5 slots, so after Jigglypuff there's probably two options left. Mewtwo has decent odds.

Pokeball Goomy.

He fires the most adorable Dragon Pulse in the world.

Enlong: Pichu was the most useless Pokémon in Melee. And no one is missing it under the pretext that "he can be made more useful".

It's clear it's another Vindicated by History fiasco.

Wasn't there a move that Pikachu in Brawl had that only Pikachus evolved from Pichus have?

^^^Unlike Pichu, Mewtwo was cool and had unique moveset. Also, tiers only matter in competitive play anyway, I've kicked friend ass with mewtwo before.

I don't see why people think Lucario replaced Mewtwo. I mean, I think Brawl's code already had an almost finished Mewtwo anyway.

It's the mechanics of his Aura Sphere attack.

Project M made Mewtwo better. I don't see why the main team can't.

[up]That I guess the both have non-damaging recovery moves and command grabs.

It's a really painful stretch though.

By that logic aren't they both Samus clones then?

No. Aura Sphere and Shadow Ball share the air-charging, the damaging charge, and the wobbly flight path at low charge.

Shadow Ball and Aura Sphere are extremely similar, but I figure they can fix that: Mewtwo's due for a move change anyway.

In any case, @Mewtwo coming back in general - from what I've seen, in fighting games in general the idea of "an old character coming back, fresh to def and rebalanced" is something that tends to please longtime fans - so it's not like bringing back a low tier character is something people won't care about.

I'm still just sad we won't be getting another story mode. I know it doesn't mean much to most people, but I just loved the Subspace Emissary so much and I think the whole You Tube thing was a stupid reason not to include it in this game.

Yeah, so far that's my biggest disappointment about what we know. SSE wasn't perfect, but I'd rather have seen it be polished into something better than dropped entirely. I liked it in spite of its flaws.

At the same time, it took up like 70% of Brawl's development time, so if we aren't getting it I at least hope we get that much more content than Brawl. tongue

Yeah Pokemon could have two slots but there would only be two more open ones but three characters I want. They could just cut Jigglypuff but they won't and going above five could be seen as too many. Also I don't want Melee Mewtwo. He's gotten some new attacks since then that could be used to make him more threatening.

If Mewtwo and Lucario are so similar, whats to prevent them from being alts like male and female wii fit trainers, or just clones, clones already exist.

The only real remote similarity is some of the properties of their neutral B moves. If they're clones, then so are Mario and Luigi, or King Dedede and Kirby, or Pit and Link.

The only argument being made is why other people think he's a clone, not whether he really is a clone. And I'm in the camp that they're not clones.
