Yeah- Bandanna Dee should be a product of Waddle Dee Toss, using the Spear Waddle Dee attack pattern from the source games.
He's a particular Waddle Dee who appears in Kirby Super Star Deluxe, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, and arguably Kirby 64, there sans signature blue bandanna. He's King Dedede's most loyal henchman, as shown by his being the only audience member in the battle with Masked Dedede.

I sure said that!Minus the Ensemble Dark Horse part. He's a main character that's playable in a game. That's a misuse of the trope, which has had tons of problems lately.
There's probably another trope for it, but he got popular fast for being that "out of the ordinary" guy from the generic ones. Toad is similar in that regard.
He could be considered an Ascended Extra, though. That one Waddle Dee that went above the rest.

Shadow?Actually, I didn't know he was a minor character first. I don't own many Kirby games.
He's a Breakout Character now, yeah.
The trope does get heavy misuse, though. >_<
Shadow?I guess Breakout Character would be more appropriate.
Hmm... I'll have to reread those tropes and see if someone can be a Breakout Character, but not an Ensemble Dark Horse.
EDIT: Ooooookay, I see the misuse. Ensemble Dark Horse would be when, say, the out-of-focus fifth guy in a Five-Man Band becomes popular, right? But not one the nameless background character becomes popular?

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaMaybe Ascended Extra would be best for him now if he's in Triple Deluxe, as well.
The Ensemble Dark Horse simply means a minor character is popular with the fanbase. They only become a Breakout Character if it leads to said character gaining more of a focus in-franchise.
i.e. The Hunters from Prime 3 are all darkhorses because they're popular with the fans, but they gain no role beyond that. Bandana Dee is a Breakout Character because he ended up becoming a main character due to his popularity.
It seems to me that the Ascended Extra is more in regards to when characters gain a more important role regardless of the fanbase's reaction.

That is not what Ensemble Dark Horse means. It's a minor character that becomes popular within the franchise.
Major characters(especially notable protagonists) cannot be one. Mascots cannot be ones. Main playable characters cannot be one.(I.E. Charizard cannot be one in the regular Pokemon games, although some of the side games are harder to say, but he can be one in SSB since he was a minor character in the fighting games. He's also a Breakout Character in Brawl. Ridley shares a similar fate when he became a boss, as well as Meta Knight and King Dedede.)

Shadow? They don't necessarily have to be minor, I don't think. Although, yes. They have to be a side character to qualify.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaBandana Dee was a minor character who became quite popular. He was a Waddle Dee who had dialogues with Dedede during the Revenge of the King segment in Superstar Ultra (like how the Halberd Captain and Meta-Knights had dialogues with Meta Knight) and acted as a "boss fight" just before you met Dedede himself (and replaced the Gold Waddle Dee in the Arena)
It wasn't until later that he became a playable character in Return to Dreamland, probably due to his popularity with the fans.
I have a message from another time...

You think adding Bandana Waddle Dee would be good?
