Shulk is from Xenoblade Chronicles, Zael is from The Last Story, and Aeron is from Pandoras Tower. They're all Wii RPG's from Nintendo (although the latter two were published by XSEED in North America) that were all released fairly close to each other, so they tend to be grouped together.
As for characters, in terms of just new series introduced since Brawl, the only character I particularly want is Shulk...but in terms of series without playable characters in general, I'd also like ones from Golden Sun, Punch Out, Sin And Punishment, Custom Robo, and Mystery Of Murasame Castle. All but Custom Robo and Mystery Of Murasame Castle (which got a minigame in Nintendo Land) have at least gotten new installments since Brawl.

You just reminded me I'd love to see a new adventure with Momohime. Also, Of those 7 games you listed, mainly I'd love to see something from Custom Robo and Sin And Punishment. Then Golden Sun, then Punch Out. I'm unfamiliar with the RP Gs.

I really want a new Drill Dozer. In hindsight, the game seemed kind of... WayForward-ish, I guess.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaGolden Sun, Sin and Punishment, StarTropics, Eternal Darkness, Punch-Out!!, Custom Robo, Nintendo Wars, Excite, Cubivore, Arcana, Kabuki Quantum Fighter, Joy Mech Fight, The Legendary Starfy, Pro Wrestling, Geist, Xenoblade, Balloon Fight, Panel de Pon, Mole Mania, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Nazo no Murasame Jō, Another Code, Professor Layton, Mach Rider, Cooking Mama. Disaster: Day of Crisis and Fossil Fighters are just among those that have tv tropes pages.
Sakurai himself has mentioned requests from things I never heard of like Tomato Adventure and I myself requested Space Demon. Nintendo has a lot of franchises. So if we take out "unpopular" or "unlikely" choices, I would say, there are about 21 franchises left without a playable character (Last Story, Cubivore and Geist count for unpopular, Cooking Mama and Layton for unlikely)

It was apparently XSEED's most successful to date, so it seems to have done pretty well in North America, at least. As for reception, while it wasn't incredibly popular, the response leaned toward positive overall. It doesn't seem any less popular than most of the other games you mentioned, anyway.
Hmm, yeah, I'd be more inclined to agree with that, although I'm still not entirely sure I'd consider it less popular than some of the other obscure old games you listed.
On a mostly unrelated note, I was just thinking and the reason Punch Out, Golden Sun, Sin And Punishment, and Custom Robo tend to come up so often when suggesting new characters is that they're just about the only franchises still without playable characters that a) have multiple games across multiple systems, and b) have main protagonists that specifically fight.
The other unrepresented Nintendo series where those both apply are pretty rare, I've noticed. I'd really like Sakurai to put representing a number of new franchises as a priority in this one, but I dunno if it'll happen...

What game are these characters from, now?
Also, what series that aren't currently represented as being playable would you guys support having a playable character? How many new, good/popular Nintendo series have come out since the last Smash?
The Sin And Punishment pages could use some grammar fixes. However, there are some that I'm not sure if fixing the grammar changes the meaning, since I haven't played the games.
